Oct. 13, 2022 VB Recaps: Pfaff Paces DuBois Over Clarion; Conneaut Beats Warren; Sherry Gets 1,000th Kill for Jburg

CLARION, Pa. – Jess Pfaff had 18 kills to lead DuBois to a 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-15, 27-25) win at Clarion.

Kendra Cowan added 11 kills and two blocks for the Lady Beavers, who rallied from deficits of 23-19 and 24-21 in the fourth set to secure the victory.

Pfaff was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Match and talked about the win.

            

Also for DuBois, Emma Delp and Morgan Pasternak each chipped in five kills with Pasternak chipping in three aces and Delp two blocks

Emily Snyder ran the offense fro the Lady Beavers with 36 set assists.

Aryana Girvan led Clarion with 12 kills and added five digs, while Hadlee Campbell chipped in 11 kills and 10 digs.

Bri Pierce led Clarion with 16 digs, while Grace Ochs had 13 digs and ran the offense with 33 set assists.

                          

CONNEAUT 3, WARREN 1

LINESVILLE, Pa. – In a showdown between two of the top Class 3A teams in District 10, Conneaut topped visiting Warren, 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17)

For the Eagles, Sylvia Prebor and Lainie Harrington each had seven kills, with Prebor adding four blocks. Mackenzie Wensel had four kills, four blocks, and five aces, Paris Karastury had 18 digs, Ashley Crabb had 10 digs and three aces, and Payten Karastury had 29 assists.

The Dragons got a big game at the net from Kylie Fehlman, 14 kills and four blocks, but the Eagles countered with a double-double from Kaylee Mattera, 18 kills and 11 digs to go along with four blocks and three aces.

Alexia Bowers had nine kills and three aces for the Dragons, while Maddy Jones had six kills and eight digs. Carly Beers had 10 digs, four kills, and four aces, Kirsten Johnson had three kills and three blocks, Summer Lucks had 23 digs and two aces, and Lindsay Madigan had 29 assists, two blocks, and two kills.

JOHNSONBURG 3, RIDGWAY 0

JOHNSONBURG, PA. – Aliana Sherry had 14 kills, including her 1,000th career kill, and added 11 digs to lead Johnsonburg to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 26-24) win over rival Ridgway at Jburg.

Annasophia Stauffer added eight kills, 15 digs, four blocks, and an ace for the Ramettes with Julia Jones chipping in six kills, 11 digs, five aces, and a block and Ella Lindberg five kills, 18 digs, three set assists and two aces.

Abby King ran the offense for Johnsonburg with 25 set assists and added two kills, three digs, and an ace.

REDBANK VALLEY 3, KEYSTONE 2

                        

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Behind 10 kills and two aces from Taylor Ripple, Redbank Valley turned around an early-season loss to Keystone with a 3-2 (25-17, 25-12, 16-25, 20-25, 15-7) win over the visiting Lady Panthers.

Mylee Harmon added 16 set assists, five aces, and three kills for the Lady Bulldogs who also got 25 digs from Caylen Rearick and seven kills from Alivia Huffman.

Leah Exley paced Keystone with 17 kills and eight aces with Natalie Bowser dishing out 17 set assists.

SAEGERTOWN 3, OIL CITY 0

SAEGERTOWN, Pa. – Alyssa Arblaster had 12 kills and three aces to help Saegertown sweep visiting Oil City, 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-18).

         

Hailee Gregor added six kills for the Panthers with Brywn McLaughlin chipping in five kills and three aces.

Lindsey Greco ran the offense for Saegertown with 25 set assists and Rylie Braymer (12 digs) and Camryn Trzeciak (8 digs) paced the defense.

SHEFFIELD 3, BROCKWAY 0

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Kadence Steffan had a double-double with 17 set assists and 14 digs to help Sheffield to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-11) sweep at Brockway.

Lexi Goldthwaite, Emily Foster, and Kassidy Orinko each had five kills for the Lady Wolverines, while Syrena Antonuccio served five aces.

For Brockway, Savannah Ross had 13 set assists and three digs, Stephanie Stage had a team-best five kills, Natane Isabella chipped in three kills and three digs, and Kalina Powell had 23 digs.

MAPLEWOOD 3, ERIE FIRST CHRISTIAN 0

ERIE, Pa. – Sadie Thomas had a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs while adding six aces as visiting Maplewood swept to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-11) win over Erie First Christian.

Elizabeth Hunter added eight kills and Madison O’Hara four kills and five aces for the Tigers.

McKenna Crawford led Maplewood’s defense with 17 digs, and Bailey Varndell ran the offense with 27 set assists while adding seven aces.

OSWAYO VALLEY 3, COUDERSPORT 0

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Praylan Perkins, Oliva Cook, and Avaree Kellert combined for 33 kills and seven aces to keep visiting Oswayo Valley unbeaten with a 3-0 (25-19, 29-27, 25-17) win over Coudersport.

Perkins had 12 kills and two aces, Cook added 11 kills and three aces, and Kellert chipped in 10 kills and two aces. Cooks and Kellert each added a pair of blocks.

Trinity Lundy ran the offense for Oswayo Valle with 30 set assists and added four aces and three digs.

Sierra Myers paced Coudersport with 11 kills, seven digs, and three aces with Ava Wahlers adding nine kills, 16 digs, and an ace, and Madyson Dubots-Angood five kills, 19 digs, and a set assist.

FRANKLIN 3, TITUSVILLE 0

TITUSVILLE, Pa. – Jennifer Blum had five kills to help Franklin pick up a 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-19) road win over Titusville.

Sydney May ran the offense for the Knights with 17 set assists and Gabby LaJeunesse paced the defense with 13 digs.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 3, BRADFORD 0

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Thanks in part to nine kills and 15 digs from Samantha Griebel Punxsutawney won for the fourth time in five tries thanks to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) sweep of visiting Bradford.

Kinsee Barnett added seven kills, five blocks, and four digs for the Lady Chucks who also got six kills and 11 digs from Ciara Toven, six digs from Maise Eberhart, 14 digs from Sydney Hoffman, and eight digs, four kills, and two aces from Lexi Poole.

Danielle Griebel ran the offense for Punxsutawney with 28 set assists and added 20 digs.

GENERAL MCLANE 3, ERIE 1

ERIE, Pa. – General McLane overcame a slow start on the road to beat Erie, 3-1 (21-25, 28-26, 25-20, 25-18) behind 10 kills, six digs, and two aces from Lilli Mook.

Bailey Cannon added eight kills, three aces, and two blocks for the Lancers who also got seven kills, two aces, and a block from Elaine Corwin.

Also for General McLane, Rachel LeSuer chipped in 21 digs, Emily Wismer had seven kills and 10 digs, Ellah Beachly contributed eight digs, and Cassidy Swain had four blocks.

NORTH CLARION 3, MONITEAU 1

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Visiting North Clarion got 11 kills, six digs, and three blocks from Alexa Carll on its way to a 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 11-25, 25-19) win over Moniteau.

Kyler Freeman added seven kills and six digs for the She-Wolves who also got seven kills and 19 digs from Makenzie Lupole and 43 digs from Kylie Disney.

Ainsley Hartle ran the offense for North Clarion with 30 set assists and added 14 digs.

MERCYHURST PREP 3, FAIRVIEW 1

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Addica Sperry had a monster offensive night with 24 kills to lead Mercyhurst Prep to a 3-1 (27-25, 25-13, 21-25, 25-20) win at Fairview.

Da’Zhana Jordan added eight kills and nine digs for the Lakers who also got seen kills and five digs from Lexi DiFuccia, 11 digs from Avery Olliner, and four blocks from Olivia Kulyk.

Julia Seth ran the offense for Mercyhurst Prep with 39 set assists and chipped in seven digs.

Abby Zablotny had seven kills for Fairview with Emma Willow adding five kills. Taylor Polach paced the Tigers’ defense with 10 digs, and Paige Wingerter ran the offense with 12 set assists.

JAMESTOWN 3, MERCER 1

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – Madilyn Enterline had eight kills and 13 digs to lift Jamestown to a 3-1 (25-11, 25-11, 18-25, 25-14) home win over Mercer.

Josie Pfaff added six kills and three digs for the Muskies who also got four kills and 12 digs from Morgan Bercis and three kills and six digs from Madison Bercis. Hannah Hart also chipped in three kills and four digs.

Taylor Keener ran the Jamestown offense with 16 set assists and added three digs.

PORT ALLEGANY 3, NORTHERN POTTER 0

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Madeline Smith had 13 kills and six aces to help Port Allegany to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-13) home win over Northern Potter.

Leigha Nelson ran the offense for the Lady Gators with 26 set assists, while Kayleigha Dowell added 12 digs and four aces, and Jenna Renner had nine aces and four kills.

Molly Cady had five kills and a block for Northern Potter with Sarah Risser adding eight digs and two kills and Kayden Brown seven set assists and four digs.

MEADVILLE 3, GROVE CITY 0

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Emma Parks had 26 kills, seven digs, and five aces to lead Meadville to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-15) win over visiting Grove City.

Kendall Mealy chipped in seven digs for the Bulldogs, while Elliot Schleicher ran the offense with 31 set assists while adding nine digs.

Delaney Callahan, Faith Cunningham, Megan Parris, Kylie Mahaffey, and Makayla Northcott each had five kills for Grove City with Grayson Cook adding five digs and Jaya Persinger running the Eagles’ offense with 16 set assists.

ST. MARYS 3, BROOKVILLE 0

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Lindsey Reiter had nine kills, four aces, and 12 set assists to help St. Marys sweep visiting Brookville, 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-14).

Alexis Whitesell and Bella Field each added five kills for the Lady Dutch with Olivia Smith adding four kills.

Rylee Nicklas teamed with Reiter to run the Lady Dutch offense with seven set assists while also adding three aces.

A-C VALLEY 3, UNION 0

FOXBURG, Pa. – Lexi Ruckdeschel had 12 kills and three blocks to lift A-C Valley to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-14) home win over Union.

Bella Ielase added five kills for the Lady Falcons with Mackenzie Parks chipping in four kills and eight digs.

Jenna Stefanacci ran the A-C Valley offense with 17 set assists and also served six aces.

WEST MIDDLESEX 3, ROCKY GROVE 0

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – West Middlesex swept to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18) road win over Rocky Grove.

Emma Mild and Kennedy Beatty each had seven kills for West Middlesex with Mild adding 13 digs and three aces and Beatty four blocks.

Abby Keckler also chipped in six kills and three aces for the Big Red with Izzy D’Onofrio contributing 10 digs and Avery Hannah eight digs.

Caitlin Stephens (12) and Abby Steindurf (8) combined for 20 set assists in the win with Stephens also adding five digs and three aces and Steindurg five digs.

Courtney Clark had seven digs and two aces for Rocky Grove with Katie Beggs adding 11 digs and an ace, Abby Cable four blocks, and Kaidlynn Burger six digs.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 3, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 0

DUBOIS, Pa. – Elk County Catholic went on the road and swept DuBois Central Catholic, 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-11) behind 13 kills and five aces from Tori Newton.

Madison Marzullo added eight kills, three aces, and four blocks for the Lady Crusaders with Reagan Bauer chipping in six kills and three aces.

Kiri Emmert ran the offense for ECC with 30 set assists.

UNION CITY, Pa. – Lucy Higley had 11 kills and nine digs and Cathryn Reynolds chipped in nine kills and seven digs to help Union City to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-17) home win over Seneca.

Michayla Magree ran the offense for the Bears with 23 set assists while adding 12 digs, Angie Hopson had four kills and three blocks, Lilly Vincent added eight digs, and Brooke VanTassell contributed four kills and three digs.

CORRY 3, NORTHWESTERN 0

CORRY, Pa. – Allison Sawyer had eight kills to lead a balanced Corry offense in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-17) win over visiting Northwestern.

Makenna Moore added six kills and 10 digs in the win with Halle Albers, Aubrey Chase, and Sadye Dyne each chipping in five kills. Albers also had three aces and two digs.

Payton McCray ran the Beavers’ offense with 22 set assists while adding six digs, and Kendyll Chamberlin helped her with 11 set assists and three aces.

CAMERON COUNTY 3, SMETHPORT 0

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Caitlyn Palumbo had 13 kills to lead visiting Cameron County to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-20) win over Smethport.

Aubree Lorenzo added five kills and three aces for the Lady Raiders who also got three kills from Navaeh Spaeth.

Kendall Richards ran the offense for Cameron County with 17 set assists.

Alyn Thomas had five kills, two digs, and an ace for Smethport with Baylee Fitzsimmons adding 25 digs, Kaylee Swanson six digs, four kills, two blocks, and an ace, and Madi Faes four aces, 11 digs, 13 set assists, and two kills.

FORT LEBOEUF 3, HARBOR CREEK 2

WATERFORD, Pa. – Kayleigh Anderson recorded 20 kills to lead Fort LeBoeuf to a back-and-forth 3-2 (25-11, 20-25, 25-14, 23-25, 15-12) victory over visiting Harbor Creek.

Becky Whitman added 11 digs for the Bison with Destiny Reigel chipping in 10 and Kylie Peterson nine. Katelynn Olmstead also had eight kills with Bella Johnson leading the defense with six digs and Brooke Barney adding five digs.

Tessa Bellis and Mackenzie Galdon ran the offense for Fort LeBoeuf with Bellis recording 27 set assists to go with four aces, three digs, and a kill and Galdon setting 24 assists to go with three aces, a dig, and a kill.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Wilmington survived a back-and-forth match with visiting Reynolds, 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 28-26, 20-25, 15-9).

Addie Floch and Ava Murcko each had five kills for Reynolds with Floch adding four aces, three digs and a block and Murcko chipping in five digs and a block.
