QUICK HITS, WEEK 9

IUP – IUP enters the weekend now ranked No. 11 in the AFCA DII Coaches Poll after taking care of Seton Hill 44-7 to remain undefeated. IUP is 10-3 in the all-time head-to-head with Gannon, but are also 9-1 in the last 10 matchups. As visitors, the team will look for their fifth win on Gannon’s home field.

GANNON – Gannon improved to 6-2 after taking back the Niagara Cup in a blowout win over Mercyhurst. Not having beaten IUP since 2014, the Golden Knights will have the chance to break a six-game losing streak this weekend.

SETON HILL – Seton Hill drop to 0-8 after being handily defeated by IUP. The Griffins have one win and seven losses to Edinboro in the history of the two programs. Their sole win over the Fighting Scots took place at home in 2015.

EDINBORO – Edinboro pulled themselves to an even record after a high-scoring 47-17 win against Clarion. The Fighting Scots will play to keep their perfect home record against Seton Hill, as well as to get their sixth consecutive win over program.

LOCK HAVEN – Lock Haven was handed another loss in Week 8, this time by Kutztown in a score of 35-7. The Bald Eagles’ next game entails a trip to West Chester to play a team they have suffered 10 straight losses to. The last victory Lock Haven can claim over West Chester occurred in 1991.

WEST CHESTER – West Chester was set back by Shepherd in Week 8 to become 4-4 for the season. Since 2009, the Golden Rams are perfect against Lock Haven and will compete for their 11th straight victory.

KUTZTOWN – Kutztown swept past Lock Haven with ease in Week 8 to move to 6-2 and second place in the PSAC East. Their next opponent, Millersville, leads Kutztown 23-18 in the all-time series, but the Golden Bears have seen the most recent success by winning the last 11 matchups.

MILLERSVILLE – Millersville pulled out their third win of the season after digging deep for a 17-14 comeback victory over Shippensburg to break a 17-game long losing streak. This weekend, the Marauders will search for their first win over Kutztown since 2009.

BLOOMSBURG – In a game that came down to the final minute, Bloomsburg was edged by East Stroudsburg 27-21 during their Homecoming weekend. Beating Bloomsburg twice on the road since 2019, Shepherd will host the Huskies for the first time since joining the conference.

CAL – Cal makes its final road trip of the season on Saturday when it travels to Erie. The Vulcans suffered a 42-24 loss on Homecoming to nationally-ranked Slippery Rock last weekend. Meanwhile, the Lakers dropped a 49-14 contest last week to crosstown rival Gannon in the Niagara Cup.

MERCYHURST – Mercyhurst fell to 2-6 on the year after a defeat at the hands of crosstown rival, Gannon. The Lakers will return home to face California (Pa.), a team they are at a 4-9 all-time series disadvantage with. They will look to prevent a seventh-straight win for the Vulcans.

SLIPPERY ROCK – Slippery Rock jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 42-24 win over Cal (Pa.). Slippery Rock owns a 56-24-3 advantage in the all-time series with Clarion that dates back to 1910. The Rock have won each of the last four meetings and 10 of the last 11 games in the series.

CLARION – Clarion was handed a multiple-possession loss by Edinboro in Week 8 to bring their two-game win streak to an end. Down significantly in the all-time series head-to-head, Clarion’s sole win versus Slippery Rock in recent years was at home in 2016 by a margin of four points.

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg is coming off a big road win over Bloomsburg in the PSAC East, 27-21. ESU doesn’t have much success against the Raiders since 2002. The Raiders are 12-3 over that span and the Warriors have not beaten Shippensburg since 2008.

SHIPPENSBURG – The Raiders are coming off a tough road loss at Millersville, 17-14. They continued to struggle through the air and were sacked five times by the Marauders’ tough defense.
