New York Sweeps Pennsylvania in Big 30 All-Star Basketball Games

PORTVILLE, N.Y. – Taking a pair of close games, New York swept Pennsylvania in the annual Big 30 All-Star basketball games Sunday at Portville (N.Y.) High School.

GIRLS GAME: NEW YORK 62, PENNSYLVANIA 60

New York outscored Pennsylvania 36-26 in the second half to overcome an eight-point halftime deficit and get a 62-60 win in the girls’ game.

Three players reached double digits for New York led by 13 points from Vanessa Hall (Andover-Whitesville). Leah Williams (Olean) added 11 points with Megan Jackson (Franklinville) scoring 10 points.

Katie Sheeler (Otto-Eldred) had a game-high 19 points while draining five 3-pointers for Pennsylvania. Izzy Catalone (St. Marys) added 13 points with Rebecca Martin (Northern Potter) and Bri Heller (Otto-Eldred) each scoring eight points.

                                      

Heller and Emma Chambers (Coudersport) each added 12 rebounds with Sheeler chipped in nine rebounds and three assists.

BOYS GAME: NEW YORK 105, PENNSYLVANIA 96

A strong second half lifted New York to a 105-96 win over Pennsylvania in the boys’ game.

Pennsylvania led 47-45 at halftime but was outscored by its northern neighbor, 60-49, in the second half.

                          

Jaiden Huntingdon (Randolph) had a game-high 31 points while hitting seven 3-pointers for New York. Andy Herrick (Salamanca) added 22 points, and Logan Dunbar (Wellsville) scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Thomas Bates (Olean) handed out seven assists.

Three players led Pennsylvania with 12 points each including Camdyn Allison (Cameron County), Preston Alfieri (Smethport), and Austin Cousins (Otto-Eldred. Alfieri and Cousins each hit four 3-pointers.

Adam Straub (Elk County Catholic) added 11 points with Michael Jacobs (Elk County Catholic) and Connor Finch (Sheffield) both adding 10 points and Aaron Sorg (Ridgway) and Tanner Fox (St. Marys ) chipping in eight points apiece.

Fox added six assists, while Straub had 10 rebounds, Jacobs nine boards, and Alifieri seven rebounds.
