Miller, Huffman Earn MVP Honors at Clarion County YMCA/YDL Sports Network All-Star Games

CLARION, Pa. – Clearfield’s Cole Miller and Redbank Valley’s Alivia Huffman earned MVP honors at the third annual Clarion County YMCA/YDL Sports Network boys’ and girls’ basketball all-star games on Sunday.

Miller earned MVP honors after scoring 32 points, leading Team Hartle to a 123-117 win over Team Cook in the boys’ game.

Huffman garnered MVP honors after netting 19 points in leading her team, Team Huffman to an 86-70 win over Team Sheeler.

                                      

BOYS: Team Hartle 123, Team Cook 117

Team Cook trailed by as many as 18 points and came roaring all the way back before Team Hartle was able to put the game away behind Miller’s 32 points.

Cam VanWormer (Oil City), who scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half, hit a shot to tie the game at 101-101, but Team Cook wasn’t able to get over the top.

Aiden Hartle (North Clarion), Tanner Fox (St. Marys), and Miller helped Team Hartle push back ahead, but not without another late Team Cook push.

Payton Johnston (Union) was fouled shooting a 3 with 33 seconds left and Team Cook trailing 119-115. Johnston knocked down 2-of-3 from the line and Miller came down on the other end and was fouled with 18 seconds left, making both free throws to put Team Hartle back up four.

                          

Preston Alfieri (Smethport) had a 3 go in-and-out on the next possession for Team Cook, and Team Hartle got the rebound and the ball out to Hartle in transition for an easy layup to seal the deal.

Hartle finished with 28 points for Team Harte, which knocked down 14 3s (Team Cook had 17), one of five players for his team in double figures. Fox finished with 20, while Adam Straub (Elk County Catholic) had 17 and Connor Finch (Sheffield) had 11.

Cook had a monster game in the loss with a game-high 33 points, while VanWormer was second on the team in scoring with 20. Also in double figures for Team Cook were Parks Ordiway (Warren) with 14 points, while Camdyn Allison (Cameron County) had 13 points and Aaron Sorg (Ridgway) and Johnston finished with 12 each.

GIRLS: Team Huffman 86, Team Sheeler 70 

Team Huffman went on a 25-15 run in the third quarter after leading 42-36 at halftime to gain some separation.

Faith Jacob (DuBois Central Catholic) spearheaded the third-quarter run for Team Huffman, scoring 10 of her 15 points in that span.

The third quarter spurt for Team Huffman also included 3s from Evin Stauffer (Port Allegany), Caylen Rearick (Redbank Valley) and Lauren Lutz (North Clarion).

Chloe Presloid (Punxsutawney) knocked down four 3s in the first half and finished with 18 points for Team Huffman, while Huffman herself scored 13 of her 19 in the first half. Rearick and Izzy Catalone (St. Marys) both finished with eight points.

                                   

Rebecca Martin (Northern Potter), poured in a game-high 18 points for Team Sheeler, while Anna Merry (Otto-Eldred) knocked down four 3s and finished with 17 points and Natalie Bowser (Keystone) had 14 points.
