Meadville Girls, McDowell Boys Win D10 3A Track/Field Team Titles; Ramblers Break Records Powered by Janney Montgomery Scott in Clarion

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Meadville girls and the McDowell boys captured the District 10 Class 3A track and field team championships on Saturday at Slippery Rock University.

Meadville finished with 169 points and McDowell 137.

   

                  

In addition, Cathedral Prep’s Luke Brown, with a time of 4:15.39 broke the meet record in the 1600, as did Prep’s Sarah Clark in the 3200 for the girls with a time of 10:52.52.

Brown’s mark eclipsed the previous record of 4:20.87 set by General McLane’s Nate Price in 2019.

Brown also won the 800 in 1:58.66.

                          

“I was looking forward to it,” Brown said of the 1600. “I had been wanting to get that time for a while. It was pretty hard but I got it done and I’m happy with it.”

Later in the meet, it was Clark setting the standard in the 3200 with a time of 10:52.52, breaking the previous mark of 11:05.94 set by Maris Reutzel of Meadville in 2003.

               

“I was running on splits, I had splits my coach was giving me,” Clark said. “I was hitting 83s and knew that was consistent so I knew.”

It’s a talented group of Prep distance runners, as Lauren Ramiy won the 1600 (5:08.23) and the 4×800 relay team of Clark, Raimy Allison Bender and Anna-Catherine Brown (9:50.60) and the 4×400 team of Clar, Tori Mayes, Raimy and Kayley McCall also took first.

“We push each other in practice and that helps immensely,” Clark said.

For the Meadville girls, Megan Puleio helped lead the way, winning the 400 (58.88) and 800 (2:18.20, while Marley Rodax won the 100 hurdles (17.48), Kayla Baker the triple jump (33’8”) and Alex Gallagher the javelin (92’6”).

For McDowell, Dara Fallon won the 200 (26.49), and the 4×100 relay team of Fallon, Alexa Sargent, Joslyn Schnell, and Gracyn Farr was first in 51.17. Schnell also won the long jump (16’2”) and Mary Stravinsky the pole vault (9’6”).

Hickory’s Josslyn Hancock won the 100 (12.80), Erie’s Tamya Larkin the 300 hurdles (49.64), and General McLane’s Kaci Smith the high jump (4’11”).

For the boys, McDowell won five events – Benny Whitaker in the 100 (10.92), the 4×800 relay team of Christian Mattern, Deacon Pierce, Nicolin Pierce, and Kamden Kramer (8:01.77), Ray Jackson in the triple jump (43’10 ½”), Christian Santiago in the javelin (161’8”) and Ryan Viosky in the discus (140’1”)

Hickory’s Luca Bertolasio, the defending state champion in the long jump, won the event with a leap of 22’1 ½”.

            

For General McLane, Kyle Birkmire won the 200 (22.09) and teamed with Grant Sherman, Jace Walls, and Cooper Robson to take first in the 4×100 relay (43.39). The Lancers’ Logan Anderson also won the 110 (14.84) and 300 (39.86) hurdles).

“I feel like I’ve been working on it all season and this was the time for it to come out,” Birkmire said of his win in the 200.

Grove City’s 4×400 relay team of Trey Reznor, Joshua Jones, Mac Messer and Gage Probst won with a time of 3:35.96, while teammate MJ Pottinger won the 3200 in 9:30.94.

Erie’s Bradon Schneider won the pole vault (15’0”) and Gus Campbell the high jump (6’1”), while Meadville’s Nic William won the 400 (50.71) and Corry’s John Styborski the shot put (49’2”).
