UNION CITY 10, MAPLEWOOD 0, 5 innings

ERIE, Pa. – The top six hitters in Union City’s lineup all had multiple hits and Abby Tingley tossed a 1-hitter to lead the top-seeded Bears to a 10-0, 5-inning win over Maplewood in the D10 Class 2A quarterfinals.

The Bears (18-0) scored in every inning but the third, and scored four runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.

   

                  

Eliza Reynolds went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs, while Emylee Zielinski was 3-for-4 with two runs, Cathryn Reynolds 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs, Sydney Gilbert 2-for-4, Cyaira Zielinski 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Rienna Higley 2-for-3 with a run. In total, the Bears had 17 hits.

In the circle, Tingley dominated. She allowed just two baserunners on a hit and a walk and struck out six.

Paige Whitehair took the loss, allowing `17 hits and three walks while striking out a pair, with the win, Union City advances to play Reynolds, a 5-0 winner over Mercer, on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.

SENECA 10, NORTHWESTERN 7

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Helen Genest had four hits and four RBIs as Seneca powered past Northwestern, 10-7 in the Class 2A quarterfinals.

                          

Kendall Joint also drove in a pair of runs for the Bobcats, while Aubrey Hammill scored three runs and had a pair of hits.

The Bobcats led 8-2 after three innings thanks to a 4-run second frame. Meghan Konkol also went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Ashley Post got the win in the circle for the Bobcats. She allowed 13 hits and four earned runs in the complete-game effort. She struck out four and walked three.

Kayleigh Bucci took the loss for Northwestern. She allowed 13 hits and nine earned runs, striking out three and walking five.

               

Maddy Camp was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Wildcats, while Lauren Rearick was 2-for-4 with an RBI, as was Jessie Gage.

With the win, the No. 6 seed Bobcats advance to play No. 7 Sharpsville in the semifinals.

SHARPSVILLE 3, WILMINGTON 2

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Breanna Hanley’s sacrifice fly in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as Sharpsville edged Wilmington, 3-2.

Hanley also got the complete-game victory on the mound. She struck out 11, allowed six hits and didn’t issue a walk.

Remi Koi was the tough-luck loser for Wilmington. She allowed four hits and three unearned runs in her complete-game effort. She struck out seven and walked two.

Paije Peterson knotted the game at two on an RBI fielder’s choice in the third.

Sharpsville scored two runs in the first inning to take the lead on a pair of errors.

With the win, Sharpsville will play Seneca in the semifinals.

REYNOLDS 5, MERCER 0

            

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Halyn Cawthorne tossed a complete game 3-hitter to send Reynolds into the D10 Class 2A semifinals with a 5-0 win over Mercer.

Cawthorne struck out 13 and walked four, throwing 64 of her 94 pitches for strikes.

The Raiders (17-4) scored single runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings and plated two more in the seventh. Mackenzie Herman went 1-for-1 with an RBI and three walks, while Phoenix Collins was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Lauren Bonner had an RBI single in the seventh. Andrea Hilyer also had a pair of hits.

Amanda Bish took the loss, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs in her seven innings. She allowed three walks and struck out nine.

The No. 4 seed Mustangs advance to play top-seed Union City in the semifinals on Wednesday.

COCHRANTON 10, ROCKY GROVE 0, 5 innings

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Cochranton scored five runs in the first inning and four more in the third en route to a 10-0, 5-inning win in the D10 Class 1A quarterfinals.

In the circle, Taytum Jackson threw four innings of 2-hit softball with three strikeouts, before Katelyn Ewing tossed a scoreless fifth.

The Cardinals took advantage of 10 Oriole walks en route to the win. Kaylin Rose was 1-for-3 with a run scored and four RBIs, while Kayla Freyermuth was 1-for-3 with two i. Jay McGill drew four walks and scored twice, while Ewing was 2-for-3 with a run.

With the win, Cochranton advances to play top seed Cambridge Springs in the semifinals. The Blue Devils received a bye.

SAEGERTOWN 15, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 0, 3 innings

MEADVILLE, Pa. – No. 3 seed Saegertown trolled to a 15-0 win overNo. 6 seed Kennedy Catholic in the Class 1A quarterfinals.

With the win, the Panthers will face No. 2 seed West Middlesex in the semifinals. The Big Reds received a bye.
