BASEBALL

LAKEVIEW 5, MERCER 4

MERCER, Pa. – Mason Bevan’s RBI groundout in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as Lakeview outlasted Mercer, 5-4. 

   

                  

The Sailors scored three runs in the top of the first. Bevan drew a bases-loaded walk, followed b RBI singles from Ted Shillito and Chase Hostetler. 

Mercer responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, Jake Mattocks reached on an error on a play that brought in a run, which was followed by a Julian Lawrence RBI single. 

Mercer took a 4-3 lead in the fourth on a Mattocks RBI single, only to watch as Mercer re-took the lead on Bevan’s RBI in the sixth. 

Hostetler got the win on the mound, tossing three scoreless innings, allowing four hits. Kyle Uber recorded the save. 

COCHRANTON 12, YOUNGSVILLE 2, 5 innings

                          

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Wyatt Barzak doubled and drove in three runs and Jaiben Walker tossed four shutout innings as Cochranton 10-runned Youngsville in its season opener. 

Walker allowed just one hit in his four innings of work, striking out seven and walking seven. 

The Cardinals scored three runs in the third, five in the fourth, and four more in the fifth. 

Josh Merchbaker went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, reaching base four times for the Cardinals. 

               

Matt Desimone had a hit and a pair of RBI for Youngsville, while Nate Lucas took the loss on the mound allowing six runs on three hits and six walks in 3 ⅓ innings of work. 

WEST MIDDLESEX 15, JAMESTOWN 0, 3 innings

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Hunter Hoffman, Tanner Shick and Julian Trott drove in three runs each as West Middlesex earned a 15-0, 3-inning win over Jamestown. 

Lukas Stinedurf and Richie Preston both doubled and drove in a run for the Big Reds. 

On the mound Preston pitched three hitless innings, striking out six and walking one. 

MEDINA (OHIO) 15, CONNEAUT (OHIO) 0

CONNEAUT, OHIO – Conneaut was limited to just four hits in a 15-0 loss to Medina. 

Bryce Spurlin doubled for the Spartans, while Anthony Burckhartte, Alex Kennedy and Zack Rice had the other Conneaut hits. 

Jake Wiley took the loss, allowing four hits and five runs over four innings,  striking out two. 

SOFTBALL

            

HICKORY 16, MEADVILLE 1, 3 innings 

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Hallie Miller homered and drove in four runs as Hickory powered past Meadville, 16-1. 

Miller had three hits on the day for the Hornets. 

Kaitlyn Gilliland had three RBIs and Ella Holland had two hits. 

On the mound, Carlie Miller recorded six strikeouts and allowed just one hit.
