Late Rally Lifts Redbank Valley to Win at Homer-Center Tourney; Cathedral Prep Baseball, Hickory Softball Win in Blowouts

HOMER CITY, Pa. – A 4-run sixth inning broke the game wide open as Redbank Valley topped Apollo-Ridge, 10-4, in the Homer-Center Tournament.

Tate Minich hit a sac fly to plate the first run of the inning. Breckin Minich hit an RBI triple, then scored on a wild pitch. Tyler Hetrick also tripled and scored on a wild pitch.

Apollo-Ridge plated a run in the first, but Redbank Valley answered with a run of its own in the second before taking the lead with a 3-run third.

Two runs in the top of the fifth tied it briefly, but the Bulldogs answered with a pair of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Brandon Butler, who doubled, tripled, and drove in a run, and Logan Bianco each had three hits for Apollo-Ridge.

   

                  

Jacob Fairbanks took the loss allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out one.

Breckin Minich and Mason Clouse each had three hits and two RBIs for the Bulldogs. Breckin Minich, Tate Minich, and Hetrick scored two runs each.

Owen Clouse got the win allowing three earned runs on eight hits with four walks and four strikeouts in four innings.

CATHEDRAL PREP 15, ERIE 2, 6 INNINGS

ERIE – Jason Fultz had three hits, including a home run, and six RBIs to help Cathedral Prep to a 15-2, 6-inning win over Erie.

                          

Fultz’s homer was one of three the Ramblers hit in the game, with Brayden Sprickman and Andrew Malec also hitting home runs. Fultz and Sprickman hit theirs back-to-back to start the second, and Malec hit a 2-run shot in the fourth. Malec also scored four times.

Andrew Costello drove in a pair, while Cole Constable, Noah Lauria, Davin Friedman, and Joey Spano each scored twice

Derick Friedman earned the victory allowing two runs on four hits and striking out six in five innings.

SOFTBALL

               

HICKORY 18, SLIPPERY ROCK 3, 4 INNINGS

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Hallie Miller and Mya Jewell combined for five hits, including two home runs, five runs, and seven RBIs to lead Hickory in an 18-3, 4-inning win over Slippery Rock.

Miller hit an inside-the-park home run in the first to score the Hornets’ second run. Jewell hit a 3-run shot as part of an 11-run second inning. Jewell’s homer was the only extra-base hit of that inning.

Madeline Myers and Jordyn Hanzelka each had three hits and two RBIs in the win. Loren Myers had two hits and three RBIs.

Madeline Myers got the win allowing three unearned runs on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts in four innings.
