Jan. 31, 2022 D10 Hoops: West Middlesex’s Beatty Joins Teammate Anthony in 1,000-Point Club

FARRELL, Pa. – West Middlesex’s Carlie Beatty became the second West Middlesex player in as many weeks to surpass 1,000-career points in the Big Reds’ 63-32 win over Farrell.

Beatty got her 1,000 with a third-quarter layup, joining senior classmate Emily Anthony in the 1,000-point club.

The duo becomes the second pair of teammates in Mercer County to achieve the feat in as many seasons, as Becca Santom and Clara Hannon did so for Grove City in 2021.

Beatty finished with 13 points for the Big Reds in the Region 1 triumph. Anthony led the offensive charge with 18 points.

                                      

Sanaa Brodie had 14 points to pace Farrell.

FAIRVIEW 59, NORTHWESTERN 18

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Hope Garrity scored 20 points as Fairview earned a 59-18 win over Northwestern.

Jenn Hunter added 12 points for the Lady Tigers, who led 33-10 at halftime, while Sara Gennuso added nine and Ella Garrity eight.

Taylor Stagl and Chloe Yazembiak netted six points each for Northwestern.

                          

SLIPPERY ROCK 36, GROVE CITY 30

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock outscored Grove City 13-3 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 36-30 win.

Bronwyn McCoy led the way for Slippery Rock with 15 points, while Ella McDermott scored five of her nine points in the fourth quarter. Gianna Bedel also added seven points.

Piper Como led Grove City with eight points, while Emma Santom, Delaney Callahan, and Hannah Reiber netted six each.

LAKEVIEW 50, GREENVILLE 42

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Reese Gadsby scored 21 of her 25 points in the second half as Lakeview rallied past Greenville in a Region 4 showdown, 50-42.

The Sailors outscored the Trojans 17-6 in the fourth quarter en route to the win, with Gadsby accounting for 12 of those.

Amber Sefton netted nine points and Jordan Olson seven for the Sailors.

Anna Harpst scored 13 of her 16 points in the second quarter for Greenville, while Grace Cano finished with 12.

WARREN 43, GENERAL MCLANE 31

                                   

WARREN, Pa. – An 18-point third-quarter outburst helped Warren extend a 3-point halftime lead to a 12-point margin in a 43-31 win over visiting General McLane.

The Dragons struggled from the field against a physical Lancers defense. It took more than 2:30 before Warren got its first points on the board and the Dragons connected on just two 3-pointers (they averaged nearly five per game coming in).

Emma Ruhlman finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Those totals also gave her another pair of career milestones as she went over 1,300 total career points and has more than 800 career rebounds to her resume.

Riley Childress and Gracie Ruhlman each finished with 10 points, while Gracie Ruhlman also collected eight rebounds. Halle Kuzminski led the team with nine boards.

Libby Opp had a team-high 14 points for the Lancers. Payton Massey finished with six and Louisa Opp and Kiley Leasure with four each.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 67, EISENHOWER 23

RUSSELL, Pa. – Makenzie and Maddie Yanc combined for 39 points as Cambridge Springs beat Eisenhower 67-23 in Region 2 action.

The Blue Devils scored 41 points in the first half. Makenzie Yanc led the way with 20 points and Maddie added 19. Hailee Rodgers was also in double figures with 13 points.

Lilly Smyth had 12 points to pace Eisenhower and also pulled down three rebounds, while Bella Marino had four assists and three rebounds and Mackenzie Dunn three rebounds and three steals.

FRANKLIN 33, CONNEAUT (Pa.) 29

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Camdon Bashor scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Franklin rallied for a 33-29 win over Conneaut in Region 5 action.

The Knights outscored the Eagles 15-8 in the fourth quarter en route to the win.

Lauren Billingsley added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Knights.

Sami Egli finished with 10 points and Hannah Brady eight for the Eagles. Rylee Jones added seven steals and five rebounds, while Jaelyn Blood had five rebounds and two steals and Egli three steals.

                                  

COCHRANTON 65, YOUNGSVILLE 11

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Cochranton scored 48 points in the first half in a 65-11 win over Youngsville.

Chelsey Freyermuth led three Cochranton players in double figures with 17 points, while Jaylin McGill and Shelby McBryar tallied 14 apiece.

Mia Rafalski had seven points for Youngsville.

JAMESTOWN 41, COMMODORE PERRY 17

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – Jillian McElhinny poured in 24 points as Jamestown picked up its first win of the season, 41-17 over Commodore Perry.

Stacie Weimert added six points for the Muskies in the Region 1 triumph.

Hailey Boozer had 11 points to lead Commodore Perry.

HICKORY 29, OIL CITY 22

OIL CITY, Pa. – Mariah Swanson scored 15 points as Hickory earned a 29-22 Region 5 win over Oil City.

Malana Beach added nine points for Hickory.

Riley Guiste had seven points to pace Oil City.

SHARPSVILLE 49, SHARON 34

SHARON, Pa. – Alli Davis poured in 24 points as Sharpsville earned a 49-34 Region 4 win over Sharon.

Chasie Fry had 12 points and five steals for the Blue Devils, while Breanna Hanley pulled down 11 rebounds.

MAPLEWOOD 67, UNION CITY 17

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Maplewood scorched the nets for 48 points in the first half on its way to a 67-17 Region 2 win over Maplewood.

Izzy Eimer led three Maplewood players in double figures with 17 points, while Bailey Varndell had 13 and Liliane Moorhead 12.

Michayla Magee had five points for Union City.

CORRY 31, ERIE 24

CORRY, Pa. – Skylar Riedel scored 12 points as Corry outlasted Erie in overtime, 31-24.

Erie’s Arianna Mitchell hit a free-throw with 2:05 left in regulation that ultimately sent the game to overtime.

Lexi Frisina added five points for Corry.

Cylie Schrimper had nine points for Erie.

MERCER 42, REYNOLDS 31

MERCER Pa. – Julia Balaski netted 18 points as Mercer earned a 42-31 win over Reynolds.

Mercer built a 21-3 first-quarter lead en route to the win as Delaney Fisher chipped in with 10 points.

Chloe McLaughlin led Reynolds with 12 points, while newly-minted 1,000-point scorer Halle Murcko had 10.

WILMINGTON 57, TITUSVILLE 21

TITUSVILLE, Pa. – Lia Krarup drained five threes on her way to a 31-point effort in Wilmington’s 57-21 win over Titusville.

Rylie McGarvie paced Titusville with 11 points.

VILLA MARIA 76, HARBOR CREEK 19

ERIE, Pa. – Carissa Dunham led four Villa players in double figures with 19 points in a 76-19 Region 6 win over Harbor Creek.

Daniela Shaughnessy and Jayden McBride had 15 points apiece, while Addie Biel added 10.

Brooke Przybylski had 11 points for Harbor Creek.

MERCYHURST PREP 69, IROQUOIS 14

LAWRENCE PARK, Pa. – Anna Tranum scored 22 points as Mercyhurst Prep beat Iroquois, 69-14 in Region 3 action.

Anna Ferrick had 13 points and Joce Ollinger 10 for the Lakers.

KENNEDY CATHOLIC 62, ROCKY GROVE 1

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Layke Fields scored 16 points as Kennedy Catholic earned a 62-1 win over Rocky Grove.

Isabella Bianco and Hayden Keith had 11 points each for the Golden Eagles.

ROCKY GROVE 70, WEST MIDDLESEX 45

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Isaac Clayton poured in 29 points as Rocky Grove earned a 70-45 Region 1 win over Rocky Grove.

D’Andre Whitman also had a big night for the Orioles, scoring 23 points in the win.

Richie Preston had 17 points to lead the Big Reds.

SHARON 52, SHARPSVILLE 48

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. – Garret Hoffman led a balanced effort with 11 points as Sharon outlasted Sharpsville, 52-48.

Hoffman was one of four Sharon players in double figures, as Lamont Austin, Connor Porterfield, and Mister Ham all had 10.

The Tigers went on a 19-10 third-quarter run en route to the win.

James Thomas led Sharpsville with 16 points, while Brock Lenzi added 13.
