DUBOIS 30, BROOKVILLE 29

DUBOIS, Pa. – Joey Foradora hit the back end of a two-shot foul with 28 seconds left, and Hunter Geer was called for a charge on a shot with 1.1 seconds left that was not good anyhow, and DuBois handed Brookville its first loss of the season, 30-29.

The Beavers, who shut out Brookville in the first quarter and led 14-4 midway through the second, found themselves down seven, 25-18, at the start of the fourth quarter.

But Ryan Kovalyak scored four points in the final eight minutes to help lead a balanced effort in coming from behind.

Kovalyak talked about the win.

DuBois scored 11 of the first 13 points of the fourth quarter to take a 29-27 lead on a pair of Al Pasternak free throws with 3:09 to play.

Brookville tied the game at 29 on a Griffin Ruhlman baseline layup with 2:23 to go – a play the Raiders used a lot in the second half.

Both teams had chances at the free-throw line to break the tie before Foradora finally did.

First, Chooch Husted missed two free throws with 2:02 to play for DuBois.

Then, Clayton Cook missed the front end of a one-and-one two seconds later after being fouled on the rebound.

After a turnover by DuBois, Brookville looked like it wanted to hold for a late shot only to have Ian Pete’s pass intercepted by Husted after Foradora tipped the ball.

Hunter Geer then fouled Foradora 35 feet from the basket with 28 seconds. Foradora’s first free throw was missed but he hit the second one to give DuBois the one-point lead.

After a Brookville timeout, the Raiders had trouble finding an opening until Geer drove the lane with around three seconds to play putting up a shot that was no good. A late charge call was then called on Geer with Pasternak taking it with 1.1 showing on the clock, and DuBois was able to throw a long pass to end the game.

Kovalyak led DuBois with 10 points and seven rebounds with Husted adding nine points and eight boards.

Ruhlman had 14 points and six rebounds for Brookville.

The loss ended Brookville’s 14-game winning streak and the Raiders’ 13-game win streak against District 9 opponents that dated back to last season. Their last loss to a D9 team was to DuBois, 56-42, at DuBois Feb. 27, 2021. Brookville (14-1 overall, 6-1 D9 League) had won 20 of 21 since then with the only loss being to Loyalsock in the PIAA Class 3A title game.
