Jan. 29, 2022 D10 Girls Hoops: Reynolds’ Murcko Reaches 1,000-Point Milestone; Slippery Rock Coach Osborn Nets 100th Win

TRANSFER, Pa. – Despite a loss, it was a banner day for Reynolds and senior Halle Murcko, who surpassed 1,000 career points in the Lady Raiders’ 65-32 setback against West Middlesex.

Murko needed 10 points coming into the game and got it with a bucket late in the second quarter. She finished the game with 13 points.

The game also featured newly-minted 1,000-point scorer Emily Anthony of West Middlesex and teammate Carlie Beatty, who is rapidly approaching the milestone as well.

Beatty had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Anthony had 13 points, seven steals, and six assists.

Caitlin Stephens added seven points and 10 boards for the Big Reds.

                                      

SLIPPERY ROCK 32, HICKORY 21

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Katie Book scored 14 points as Slippery Rock head coach Amber Osborn picked up her 100th career win in a 32-21 win over Hickory.

The Lady Rockets have been one of the most successful programs in District 10 under Osborn, including claiming the District 10 Class 5A title in 2018.

The Region 5 triumph over the Hornets was a defensive battle, with Hickory taking a 12-7 halftime lead and extending that margin to 21-10 after three quarters.

Bronwyn McCoy added nine points for the Rockets.

Mariah Swanson led Hickory with eight points.

WARREN 37, ERIE 21

ERIE, Pa. – Riley Childress scored 19 points as Warren earned a 37-21 Region 6 road win over Erie

Emma Ruhlman added 11 points for the Lady Dragons and in the process, Childress and Ruhlman became the winningest class under 14th-year head coach Lisa LaVan with a mark of 74-19, a total that is also believed to be the most in program history.

The duo surpassed the class directly ahead of them with Kelsey Stuart and Teagan Paris (73-30).

Childress went 9-of-9 from the free-throw line and Ruhlman had eight rebounds, with Gracie Ruhlman pulling down seven boards.

Torreuna Roberts led Erie with seven points.

VILLA MARIA 60, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 17

ERIE, Pa. – In a matchup of the defending Class 4A and 2A champion in District 10, it was Villa that earned an impressive 60-17 win over Cambridge Springs.

                                   

The Victors jumped out to an 18-5 first-quarter lead and never looked back, taking a 29-point cushion into halftime.

Addie Biel led the way for Villa with 15 points, while Carissa Dunham added 13 and Jayden McBride 10.

Maddie Yanc had 12 points to pace Cambridge Springs.

COCHRANTON 62, EISENHOWER 31

RUSSELL, Pa. – Jaylin McGill poured in 20 points as Cochranton doubled up Eisenhower in Region 2 action, 62-31.

The Cardinals, who also got 11 points from Carlie Richter, led 37-13 at halftime.

Bella Marino and Mackenzie Dunn finished with 14 and 12 points respectively for Eisenhower, with Marino adding three rebounds three assists, and two steals and Dunn six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

GIRARD 48, CONNEAUT (OHIO) 22

GIRARD, Pa. – Kayla Sharman and Lily Polk combined for 38 points in Girard’s 48-22 win over Conneaut (Ohio).

Sharman finished with 20 and Polk 18.

CORRY 36, UNION CITY 23

CORRY, Pa. – Rachel Brady scored 10 points as Corry earned a 36-23 win over Union City.

Corry outscored Union City 21-6 in the second half, as Lexi Frisina added seven points.

Cathryn Reynolds paced UC with 11 points.

NORTHWESTERN 36, IROQUOIS 17

                                  

ALBION, Pa. – Chloe Yazembiak scored 12 points to lead Northwestern to a 36-17 win over Iroquois.

Taylor Stagl added seven for the Wildcats, who outscored the Braves 19-7 in the second half.

Alena Krysiak had eight points for Iroquois.

BRADFORD 36, OIL CITY 29

OIL CITY, Pa. – Kalie Dixon tied a season-high with 15 points, as Bradford broke a nine-game losing streak with a 36-29 win at Oil City.

Alanna Benson added seven points for the Lady Owls.

Maddy Marczak led Oil City with 13 points.
