Jan. 27, 2022 D10 Hoops: Mercer, Harbor Creek Girls Win Thrillers; Fairview Moves to 15-0

HARBORCREEK, Pa. – Brooke Przybylski’s short jumper off an inbound pass as time expired in regulation sent Harbor Creek to overtime with McDowell, and the Huskies outscored the Trojans 13-8 in the extra session for a 44-39 win.

Przybylski scored 17 points for Harbor Creek and Elise Benim 11. The duo also combined to make 10 free throws. Alaina Barton added nine points for Harbor Creek.

Jessica Hetz was the lone McDowell player in double figures with 14 points.

The win gave Harbor Creek a split of the season series.

MERCER 44, FARRELL 42

                                      

FARRELL, Pa. – Julia Balaski made the game-winning layup as time expired in Mercer’s 44-42 Region 1 win over Farrell.

Balaski’s final two points gave her 10 for the half and 16 for the game. Claire Brown scored five of her 11 points in the fourth quarter for Mercer.

Pressley Washil added eight points for the Mustangs.

Sanaa Brodie had 12 points to lead Farrell, while Da’Merra Thomas added 10 and Cyncere Harden-Mann eight.

MAPLEWOOD 62, EISENHOWER 32

                          

RUSSELL, Pa. – Liliane Moorhead scored 20 points as Maplewood powered past Eisenhower in Region 2 action, 62-32.

The Tigers scored 42 points in the first half en route to the win.

Sadie Thomas netted 12 points for Maplewood and Izzy Eimer nine.

Lilly Smyth paced Eisenhower with 13 points and Mackenzie Dunn netted eight.

GROVE CITY 49, OIL CITY 19

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City didn’t allow more than five points in any quarter in a 49-19 win over Oil City in Region 5 action.

Piper Como had another big game, pouring in 17 points, including four triples, while Emma Santom and Delaney Callahan added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Como also had four steals and three assists and Hanna Reiber eight assists for the Eagles.

Maddie Marzcak led Oil City with eight points.

UNION CITY 43, YOUNGSVILLE 28

                                   

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Three Union City players scored in double figures as Union City earned a 43-28 win over Youngsville.

Cathryn Reynolds tallied 11 points, while Jessica Messenger and Sophia Messenger tallied 10 points each.

Sophia Messenger nabbed Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game honors and talked about the win afterward:

The Lady Bears led 25-12 at halftime en route to the win.

Olivia Darling and Mia Rafalski tallied six points apiece for Youngsville.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 52, SENECA 28

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Pa. – Leading by one at halftime, Cambridge Springs outscored Seneca 28-5 in the second half en route to a 52-28 Region 2 win.

Maddie Yanc scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half, while Hailee Rodgers added 15 points for the Blue Devils.

Lauren Konkol had 11 points to pace Seneca.

FAIRVIEW 69, IROQUOIS 17

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Fairview didn’t yield more than six points in any quarter in a 69-17 win over Iroquois.

                                  

A total of nine different Fairview players made their way into the scoring column. Hope Garrity led the way with 21 points, while Caroline Zentis netted 14 and Bre Heidt and Emma DiStefano eight each.

The Lady Tigers improved to 15-0 in the process.

Lecksas Ferguson led Iroquois with six points.

FRANKLIN 46, SLIPPERY ROCK 35

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Lauren Billingsley had 16 points and seven rebounds as Franklin picked up a huge win over Slippery Rock, the top team in the Region 5 standings.

Franklin built a 22-13 lead at halftime on its way to the win.

Camdon Bashor posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds for Franklin, while Gabby LaJuenesse added seven points.

Ella McDermott scored 15 points for Slippery Rock and Bronwyn McCoy eight.

SHARPSVILLE 66, TITUSVILLE 13

TITUSVILLE, Pa. – Sharpsville put up 50 points in the first half in a 66-13 win over Titusville.

Chasie Fry led the way for the Blue Devils with 18 points, while Alli Davis netted 16 and Tori Kimpan 10.

Amber Auer had six points for Titusville.

COCHRANTON 42, SAEGERTOWN 32

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Jaylin McGill tallied 17 points as Cochranton earned a 42-32 Region 2 win over Saegertown.

The Cardinals outscored the Panthers 16-8 in the fourth quarter on their way to the win.

Brooke Pfeiffer added seven points for Cochranton.

Averie Braymer tallied 16 points to lead Saegertown.

GIRARD 40, FORT LEBOEUF 39

WATERFORD, Pa. – Peyton Kalicky’s free throw with 1:53 to go in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as Girard outlasted Fort LeBoeuf, 40-39.

The free throw made it 40-36. LeBoeuf’s Jillian Soder knocked down a triple with just over a minute left to make it 40-39, but that was the last point that either team scored.

Lily Polk led Girard with 17 points, while Kayla Sharman added 13.

Soder had 14 points for LeBoeuf and Emily Samluk 11.

GREENVILLE 50, WILMINGTON 21

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Grace Cano and Anna Harpst combined for 33 points as Greenville earned a 50-21 win over Wilmington.

Cano finished with 13 points and Harpst 12 for the Trojans, who led 29-8 at halftime.

Lia Krarup had nine points for Wilmington.

VILLA MARIA 61, GENERAL MCLANE 18

EDINBORO, Pa. – Lena Walz scored 15 points to lead a balanced Villa effort in a 61-18 win over General McLane that keeps them perfect in Region 6 play.

Carissa Dunahm and Addie Biel scored 12 points each for Villa, which scored 42 points in the first half.

Louisa Opp had six points to pace GM.

LAKEVIEW 63, SHARON 20

STONEBORO, Pa. – Reese Gadsby scored 21 points as Lakeview powered past Sharon, 63-20.

The Sailors led 36-11 at halftime en route to the win and didn’t give up more than seven points in any quarter.

Kelsey Seddon added 13 points for Lakeview and Emma Marstellar nine.

HICKORY 43, MEADVILLE 29

HERMITAGE, Pa. – McKenzie Gustas scored 16 points as Hickory topped Meadville, 43-29.

The Hornets, who also got eight points from Kendra Koerth, built a 10-point halftime lead en route to the win.

Reese Burnett had eight points and Phoebe Templin seven for Meadville.

MERCYHURST PREP 58, CONNEAUT (OHIO) 23

CONNEAUT, OHIO – Anna Tranum led four Mercyhurst Prep players in double figures with 21 points in a 58-23 road win over Conneaut.

Mangini added 14 points, Audrey Zimerman 13 and Olivia Kulyk 10 for the Lakers.

BOYS

ROCKY GROVE 55, REYNOLDS 35

GREENVILLE, Pa. – D’Andre Whitman poured in 20 points as Rocky Grove earned a 55-35 Region 1 win over Reynolds.

The Orioles led by 11 at halftime.

Isaac Clayton and Quinn Ritchey added nine points each for the Orioles.

Nate Miller had 11 points for Reynolds.
