Jan. 24, 2022 D10 Hoops: Region Warriors – Fairview, Warren, Cambridge Springs, KC, Greenville, Villa Girls Flex Their Muscles in Wins

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – In a matchup of the top two teams in Region 3, Hope Garrity scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half as Fairview stayed unbeaten with a 54-44 win over Mercyhurst Prep.

The Tigers outscored the Lakers 15-8 in the third quarter to take an 11-point lead into the fourth.

Garrity knocked down three triples and was 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Bre Heidt also had a big second half for Fairview, scoring 14 of her 15 points over the final two quarters.

Ella Garrity added seven points for Fairview.

Jocelyn Ollinger led Mercyhurst Prep with 13 points, while Anna Tranum added nine and Olivia Kulyk eight.

                                      

WARREN 62, HARBOR CREEK 35

WARREN, Pa. – Warren finished the first quarter with a 16-1 run and cruised to a 62-35 Region 6 win over visiting Harbor Creek.

The Huskies jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but a steal by Riley Childress led to Emma Ruhlman converting a 3-point play and the Dragons were off and running.

Warren scored at least 14 points in every quarter while the Dragons limited the Huskies to just 15 points in the first half and 20 in the second.

Ruhlman and Childress accounted for nearly 3/4 of the Dragons’ points as they finished with 23 and 21 points, respectively. Ruhlman added eight rebounds and Childress had six assists. Sammie Ruhlman was also in double figures with 11 points. She scored nine in the fourth quarter, all on 3-pointers, including a bank shot at the buzzer.

                          

Samantha Zank led the Huskies with 10 points, while Elise Benim had nine and Rylee Kapsar eight.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 41, UNION CITY 18

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Pa. – Hailee Rodgers scored 11 points to lead a balanced Cambridge Springs effort in a 41-18 Region 2 win over Union City.

Maddie and Makenzie Yanc scored nine points apiece for the Blue Devils, who limited Union City to six second-half points after leading 22-12 at halftime.

Finley Rausher chipped in with eight points for the Blue Devils.

Jessica Messinger and Michalea Magee scored six points each for Union City.

SAEGERTOWN 54, EISENHOWER 16

RUSSELL, Pa. – Averie Braymer scored 18 points as Saegertown topped Eisenhower in Region 2 action, 54-16.

Braymer scored 12 of her points in the first half, while Mollie Przybrowski tallied 14 points for the Panthers.

                                   

Bella Marino led Eisenhower with eight points and also added four rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks. Mackenzie Dunn added six points for Ike.

KENNEDY CATHOLIC 67, WEST MIDDLESEX 54

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Kennedy Catholic outscored West Middlesex 22-13 in the fourth quarter on its way to a big Region 1 road win, 67-54.

It was once again a balanced effort across the board for the Golden Eagles, as Paris Gilmore led the way with 21 points, including three triples.

Layke Fields added 14 points, Hayden Keith 12 and Bellah DiNardo 10 for KC.

The Golden Eagles overcame a huge game from West Middlesex’s Carlie Beatty who scored 30 points.

Emily Anthony added nine points for WM.

COCHRANTON 48, SENECA 46

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Jaylin McGill scored 13 points, including the go-ahead bucket with 24 seconds to go in Cochranton’s 48-46 win over Seneca.

McGill’s shot came on the heels of a three-pointer from Seneca’s Meghan Konkol that tied the game at 46 apiece.

Abby Knapka also had 13 points for Cochranton.

Konkol led Seneca with 13 points, while Lauren Schneider added 11.

GREENVILLE 51, SHARPSVILLE 41

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. – Greenville outscored Sharpsville 14-7 in the fourth quarter to earn a 51-41 Region 4 win.

Josie Lewis led the way for Greenville with 21 points, while Grace Cano added 11.

                                  

Chasie Fry had 15 points for Sharpsville and Alli Davis seven.

VILLA MARIA 50, MCDOWELL 17

ERIE, Pa. – Jayden McBride scored 21 points as Villa rolled to a 50-17 Region 6 win over McDowell.

The Victors didn’t allow more than five points in any quarter.

Carissa Dunham netted 14 points for Villa.

Jessica Hetz had five points to lead McDowell.

MEADVILLE 42, OIL CITY 35

OIL CITY, Pa. – Phoebe Templin scored 14 points as Meadville picked up its second win, 42-35 over Oi City.

The Bulldogs outscored the Oilers 19-12 in the fourth quarter en route to the win.

Aliviah Ashton added 11 points for Meadville.

Maddy Marczak led Oil City with 12 points.

LAKEVIEW 55, WILMINGTON 39

STONEBORO, Pa. – Kelsey Seddon poured in 23 points as Lakeview powered past Wilmington, 55-39.

The Sailors outscored the Greyhounds by 10 in the fourth quarter en route to the win.

Reese Gadsby netted 15 points for the winners.

Freshman Lia Krarup tallied 16 points for Wilmington, while Sarah Dieter added 11.

GENERAL MCLANE 43, CORRY 27

CORRY, Pa. – Louisa Opp scored 12 points and Avery VanDyke 10 as General McLane earned a 43-27 Region 6 win over Corry.

GM led 25-11 at halftime.

Rachel Brady had 10 points and Miranda Nickerson nine for Corry.

NORTHWESTERN 48, GIRARD 31

ALBION, Pa. – Northwestern jumped out to a 22-6 lead on its way to a 48-31 win over Girard.

Taylor Stagl scored 19 points and Chloe Yzembiak 17 for Northwestern.

Kayla Sharman poured in 16 points for Girard.
