Jan. 18 2022 D10 Girls’ Hoops: Warren Earns Big Region 6 Win Over McDowell; Callahan, Grove City Top Franklin; Youngsville Edges Ike

WARREN, Pa. – Riley Childress scored seven of her 11 points in the fourth quarter as Warren held off McDowell in a key Region 6 battle, 32-26.

Childress also had a key assist on a Halle Kuzminski bucket in the fourth quarter, and Sammie Ruhlman knocked down a pair of late free throws to ice it.

Warren led 12-8 at halftime in the defensive slugfest.

Emma Ruhlman scored a game-high 15 points for Warren, including seven in the third quarter as the lead grew to as many as eight.

Amaiya Nelson had a three-point play to give McDowell a brief 22-21 lead before back-to-back buckets by Childress.

                                      

Nelson finished with five points, while Caylen Spano had a team-high eight for McDowell.

GROVE CITY 42, FRANKLIN 24

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Delaney Callahan poured in 20 points as Grove City earned a 42-24 Region 5 win over Franklin.

Grove City led 22-9 at halftime en route to the win, as Callahan scored eight points in the second quarter.

Izzy Gamble netted 11 points for the Eagles and Emma Santom eight. Callahan and Gamble had six rebounds apiece, while Santom had five and Piper Como dished out four assists and had three steals.

                          

Camdon Bashor led Franklin with 12 points.

YOUNGSVILLE 32, EISENHOWER 31

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Olivia Darling knocked down the front end of a one-and-one with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift Youngsville to a 32-31 Region 2 win over Eisenhower.

The free throw gave Youngsville a 32-28 lead, which proved to be critical, as Lilly Smythe rebounded Darling’s miss on her second attempt and nailed a shot from halfcourt as time expired.

Kenzie Olewine knocked down 5-of-6 free throws in the fourth quarter to help Youngsville to the win, finishing with a team-high 12 points.

Molly Helman had a pair of key fourth-quarter buckets for Youngsville, finishing with eight points.

Smyth led Eisenhower with a game-high 14 points, while Bella Marino had 12, nine of which came in the second half.

HICKORY 45, CONNEAUT (Pa.) 38

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Hickory outscored Conneaut 15-7 in the fourth quarter en route to a 45-38 victory.

Malana Beach knocked down three first-half triples and finished with a game-high 14 points.

McKenzie Gustas scored five of her 13 points in the fourth quarter to help lead the Hornets to the victory, while Mariah Swanson added eight points.

Jaelyn Blood finished with 12 points for Conneaut, while Rylee Jones added 11 and Hannah Brady eight.

Blood added six rebounds and four assists, Jones four steals, and four assists and Brady six boards.

BROOKVILLE 53, OIL CITY 31

BROOKVILLE, Pa. -Brookville outscored visiting Oil City 31-6 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 53-31 win.

The Lady Raiders, who started the game on a 14-0 run, found themselves down 25-22 with eight minutes to play but went bonkers in the quarter thanks in part to Alayna Haight scoring all 11 of her points in the quarter.

Jordan Cook and Eden Wonderling both had double-doubles for Brookville.

Wonderling had 15 points and 13 rebounds while adding seven steals, while Cook added 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Ashlee Shreckengost led Oil City with eight points with Maddy Marczak adding seven.

MERCER 53, SHARON 32

MERCER, Pa. – Mercer built a ten-point first-quarter lead and never looked back in a 53-32 win over Sharon.

                                  

Julia Balaski led three Mercer players in double figures with 17 points, while Delaney Fisher netted 15 and Pressley Washil 10.

Ella Connelly led Sharon with nine points.

GREENVILLE 52, NORTH EAST 42

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Greenville built an 18-point halftime lead on its way to a 52-43 win over Sharon.

Grace Cano led three Greenville players in double figures with 17 points, while Josie Lewis added 15 and Anna Harpst 10.

Alex Cozzens had 13 points to pace North East.
