YORK, Pa. – State champions with an exclamation point.
The Hickory girls golf team dominated the PIAA Class 2A girls’ golf championships on Monday at Heritage Hills, shooting a team score of 225 (+9), 14 shots better than second-place Greensburg Central Catholic (239).
Like they have been all season, the Hornets were incredibly consistent. Sasha Petrochko shot a 74, McKenzie Gustas 75 and Luciana Masters a 76.
Petrochko’s rounds included a 34 on the back nine and four total birdies. Gustas’ round included an eagle on the Par 5 second hole and a 36 on the front nine, while Masters also shot a 36 on the front nine.
The top three scores counted toward the team total, with the Hornets’ fourth golfer, Luciana Masters, carding an 87.
North East finished third in the team standings, finishing one stroke behind GCC at 240. For the Grapepickers, Lydia Swan shot a 68, Anna Swan a 72 and Tatiana Llera a 100. Lydia Swan’s round included an eagle on the Par 5 seventh hole, as well as five birdies.
Anna Swan also had five birdies.
In the Class 3A girls team championships, McDowell finished in fourth with a 257. Downingtown East won the title with a team score of 236.
For the Lady Trojans, Zoey McClain shot a 74, Alexis Marsh a 91 and Brooke Hamilton a 92. McClain had three birdies in her round.
In the Class 2A boys championships, Union City finished in fifth place with a team score of 344 (the top four scores count in the boys scoring). Devon Prep won the championship with a team score of 304.
For the Bears, PIAA Class 2A individual champion Josh James shot a 75, Cole DeSimone a 79, Tyler Parkhurst an 84 and Matt Bennett a 106. James had three birdies in his round.
