Girls’ Tennis: Brockway Tops DuBois; Sweeps Abound in D10

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Winning three of the four singles matches, Brockway beat visiting DuBois, 5-2, in girls’ tennis action Thursday.

Selena Buttery topped Grace Askey, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, Taylor Rhed beat Cassie Lanzoni, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, and Hannah Zucolotto toppled Jessica Hnat, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.

Buttler and Rhed then teamed up to beat Askey and Lanzoni, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, while Leah Trunzo and Emma Miller of Brockway beat Kara Miller and Madison Brantley, 9-7, at No. 3 doubles.

DuBois’ wins came at No. 4 singles where Laken Lashinsky topped Maci Dixon, 6-2, 6-1, and Hnat and Lashinsky teamed to beat Zuccolotto and Dixon, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.

VILLA MARIA 5, CONNEAUT (OHIO) 0

            

CONNEAUT, Ohio – Villa Maria swept Conneaut (Ohio), 5-0, in Conneaut.

The Victors got singles wins from Anna Poranski, 6-0, 6-0, over Madeline Maire, Annie Prichard, 6-0, 6-0, over Lizzy Young, and Lilli Beuchart, 7-6, 6-1, over Karlie Mickle.

Picking up doubles wins for Villa were Grade Teed and Margaret McGovern, 6-0, 6-0, over Heidi Mayor and Sam Wright, and Sofia Falvo and Paige Belton, 6-0, 6-0, over Sara Barrett and Lyla Rickett.

Villa Maria is now 4-0 on the season.

HICKORY 5, GREENVILLE 0

                          

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Visiting Hickory swept Greenville, 5-0.

Singles wins for the Hornets came from Isabelle Frangakis, Nicolette Leonard, and Abbie Bender, while Giada Bertolasio and Ava Spielvogle and Hannah Beighley and Brooke Psznick took home doubles wins.

SHARON 5, OIL CITY 0

SHARON, Pa. – Sharon got a 5-0 win over visiting Oil City.

Singles victories for the Tigers went to Megan Messina, Ella Connelly, and Mirana Metro, while Katie Jennings and Abby Wallace and Iresha Norris and Katie Lapikas took home doubles wins.

GROVE CITY 5, WILMINGTON 0

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Visiting Grove City swept past Wilmington, 5-0.

Singles wins for the Eagles came from Katie Feng, Macy Matson, and Emily Williams with doubles victories from the teams of Cana Severson and Jane Coulter and Lillian Conger and Jubilee Bandy.
