Gill, Palmer, Reinsel, Pierce, Karpinski to Wrestle for PIAA Class 2A Gold; VanDee, Smith in 3A Semifinals

HERSHEY, Pa. – Five District 9 and 10 wrestlers will wrestle for PIAA Class 2A gold after semifinal wins on Friday.

Hickory’s Louie Gill (106), Brockway’s Mark Palmer (126), Brookville’s Owen Reinsel (132), Harbor Creek’s Connor Pierce, and Greenville’s Cole Karpinski (189) will wrestle to earn the state’s top wrestling honor at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Parade of Champions at 1:45.

Gill, who will aim to repeat as a PIAA champion earned a 6-3 decision over Ayden Smith of Notre Dame-Green Pond before tech falling Saucon Valley’s Cole Hubert in the semifinals, 15-0 in 4:18. He will face Parker Sentipal of Burgettstown, who earned an 11-0 major decision in the semis, for the title.

At 126, Palmer got an 11-6 decision over Robert Gardner of South Williamsport before notching a 4-3 decision over Kaden Milheim of Warrior Run in the semis. He will draw Scott Johnson of Muncy, a 5-2 winner in the semis over Dylan Granahan of Benton in the semifinals.

                              

Reinsel, meanwhile, pulled out a couple of tough wins at 132, beating Ethan Kolb of Benton 3-0 in the quarterfinals before notching a 2-0 sudden victory decision over Mason Marvitskie of Southern Columbia. He will face Brandan Chletsos of Notre Dame-Green Pond, a 5-2 Conner Heckman of Midd-West in the semis.

Pierce, who will medal for the fourth time at Hershey, was simply dominant on Friday, getting a 10-2 major decision over Kobin Karper of Boiling Springs in the quarterfinals and followed that up with a 16-0 tech fall in the second period against Ambrose Boni of Central Valley. He will square off with Ryan Crookham of Saucon Valley in the fina. He beat Cade Wirnsberger of Meadowbrook Christian via 10-1 major decision in the semis.

Brookville’s Bryce Rafferty and Corry’s Hayden Linkerhof also advanced to the semis before losing their respective matches, but have assured themselves of state medals. They will face each other in the fifth-place match.

In Class 3A, Cathedral Preps Jake VanDee, a defending PIAA champion, and teammate Kamen Smith (152) both are in the semifinals.

                          

VanDee earned a 13-4 major decision over Anthony Ferraro of Pine-Richland in the quarterfinals, while Smith got an 8-3 decision over Griffin Gonzales of Lebanon.

They will wrestle their semifinal matches at 9 a.m. tomorrow, with the Parade of Champions at 6:45 followed by the finals and consolation bouts at 7.
