Five D9 and D10 Football Teams in PennLive, PFN Preseason Rankings

HARRISBURG, Pa. – A total of five District 9 and District 10 football teams garnered preseason state rankings released Tuesday by PennLive and Monday by the Pennsylvania Football News (PFN), with four more in the Teams to Watch/Honorable Mention categories.

Farrell checks in with the highest ranking at No. 2 in both polls in Class 2A. The Steelers lost three hard-fought games to Wilmington last season, including 19-14 in the D10 title game, the fifth straight D10 crown for the Greyhounds, who are No. 7 (PennLive) and No. 9 (PFN) in the preseason rankings. Also in Class 2A, defending District 9 champion Karns City is ‘Honorable Mention’ by PFN.

Cathedral Prep, which lost to Pine-Richland in the Class 5A state championship game in 2020, is No. 4 in the Class 5A PennLive rankings and No. 5 in PFN. The Ramblers were 7-3 a year ago.

Redbank Valley is ranked No. 5 in Class 1A by both outlets. The Bulldogs went 7-1 in 2020 on their way to winning the District 9 championship.

In Class 3A, Hickory checks in at No. 8 by PennLive and No. 10 by PFN. The Hornets went 8-1 in 2020, winning the District 10 title in the process. Also in Class 3A, Clearfield and St. Marys are both PennLive ‘Teams to Watch.’ The Bison beat the Flying Dutchmen for the D9 championship last season, 41-30. Grove City, which advanced to the D10 3A title game in 2020 before falling to Hickory is listed as ‘Honorable Mention’ by PFN. St. Marys is also ‘Honorable Mention’ in the PFN rankings.

            

The regular season kicks off on Aug. 27.
