Feb. 2, 2022 D10 Boys/Girls Hoops: Cambridge Springs Girls Win Region 2 Showdown; Iroquois Boys Win in Overtime

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Trailing 25-22 going into the fourth quarter, Cambridge Springs outscored Maplewood 12-3 in the fourth quarter for a 34-28 win in a battle for first place in Region 2.

Makenzie Yanc was big for the Blue Devils, scoring seven of her 13 points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of big threes.

Maddie Yanc tallied 11 points for Cambridge Springs, including a pair of buckets in the fourth-quarter comeback.

Sadie Thomas led Maplewood with a team-high 10 points, while Izzy Eimer tallied 9 for the Tigers.

FAIRVIEW 54, CONNEAUT (OHIO) 23

                                      

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Hope Garrity continued her march toward 1,000 points with 28 in Fairview’s 54-23 Region 3 win over Conneaut (Ohio).

With the win, Fairview improved to 17-0, as Garrity drained seven threes.

Caroline Zentis tallied nine points and Jenn Hunter six for the Tigers.

Kayla Farley led Conneaut with nine points.

WEST MIDDLESEX 70, GREENVILLE 41

                          

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Newly-minted 1,000-point scorer Carlie Beatty erupted for 37 points as West Middlesex earned an impressive 70-41 win over Greenville.

West Middlesex outscored Greenville 36-17 in the second half en route to the win.

Beatty spread out her scoring throughout the game, with her high quarter mark 13 in the second.

Emily Anthony had 12 points as well for the Big Reds.

Anna Harpst scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half for Greenville, while Grace Cano had eight of her 10 points in the second half.

FARRELL 59, SHARON 23

FARRELL, Pa. – Sanaa Brodie erupted for 32 points as Farrell earned a 59-23 win over Sharon.

Brodie scored 20 of her 32 points in the second half as the Steelers outscored the Tigers 31-7 over the final 16 minutes.

Diavonna Nixon led Sharon with six points.

UNION CITY 56, TITUSVILLE 12

                                   

UNION CITY, Pa. – Cathryn Reynolds had a game-high 16 points as Union City earned a 56-12 win over Titusville.

Nine different Union City players scored as Abby Tingley netted 10 and Julia Murphy and Jessica Messenger nine each.

Lilly Tucker had eight points for Titusville.

UNION (NEW CASTLE) 42, WILMINGTON 15

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Three different Union players scored eight points apiece in a 42-15 win over Wilmington.

Kelly Cleaver, Bella Cameron, and Kayla Fruehstorfer all had eight in the win.

Madison Graham had four points for Wilmington.

BOYS

IROQUOIS 55, YOUNGSVILLE 52, overtime

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Ben Burkhardt scored 32 points as Iroquois outlasted Youngsville in overtime, 55-52.

Burkhardt drilled five threes and was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Koby Hendrickson had a big game on the Youngsville side, pouring in a team-high 18 points, while Blake Myers had 13 for the Eagles.

Burkhardt was the only Brave in double figures, but Jayden Moffett did chip in with eight points and Colton Carpenter seven.

LAKEVIEW 63, UNION CITY 54

STONEBORO, Pa. – Cam Pence scored 18 points as Lakeview held off Union City, 63-54 in non-region action.

                                  

Lane Smith scored 15 points and Cody Fagley 12 for the Sailors, who built a 34-21 halftime lead en route to the win.

Down 15 going into the fourth quarter, Union City tried to rally behind Wyatt Post, Bryce Drayer and Matt Bennett. Drayer scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter, while Post finished with a team-high 18 and Bennett 10.

Bennett is now at 981 career points.

JAMESTOWN 63, GREENVILLE 59

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – Cam Keyser poured in 32 points, including 19 in the second half as Jamestown earned a 63-59 non-region win over Greenville.

Peyton McElhinny also had a big game for the Muskies with 18 points, 14 of which came in the second half as the Muskies went from down six at halftime to up three after the third quarter.

Jalen Ritzert led three Greenville players in double figures with 19 points (15 of which came in the second half), while Brady Kincaid had 16 and Noah Philson 10.

FARRELL 66, COMMODORE PERRY 26

HADLEY, Pa. – Omar Stewart led Farrell with 16 points as the Steelers earned a 66-26 Region 1 win over Commodore Perry.

Lamont Samuels added 10 points for the Steelers.

Kyle Stringert had seven points to pace the Panthers.

ERIE 75, MEADVILLE 70

MEADVILLE, Pa. – A late Meadville rally came up just short as Erie held off the Bulldogs 75-70 in Region 6 action.

The Royals took a 56-43 lead going into the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs scored 27 points in the fourth quarter, but Erie was able to hold them off thanks in part to 58 combined points from Andreas McCullum, Layveon Gore and Jay Smith.

McCullum finished with 20, while Smith and Gore tallied 19 each.

Khalon Simmons had another big game for Meadville with 28 points, while Jack Burchard chipped in with 17.

UNION (NEW CASTLE) 53, WILMINGTON 31

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Matt Stanley scored 17 points as Union earned a 53-31 win over Wilmington.

Damien Micco had 13 points and Colin Hill 12 for the Greyhounds.
