District 9 Competitive Spirit Championships Being Held Saturday

Moniteau 2019 Competitive Spirit District 9 championship team

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – The District 9 Competitive Spirit Championship is taken place starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Moniteau High School.

No spectators will be allowed at the school, but the event will be live-streamed on the Moniteau YouTube Channel free of charge.

There will be eight teams in the events, including three in the Small School Division, three in the Co-Ed Division, and two in the Large Division.

The Small School teams are A-C Valley, Moniteau, and Punxsutawney. The Co-Ed teams are Clarion-Limestone, DuBois, and Johnsonburg, and the Large School teams are Elk County Catholic and Karns City.

The top team in each division is an automatic state qualifier regardless of their scores. The next top score (non-winning team) regardless of division will also qualify for the PIAA Championships. Only the division winners will be announced with the teams in the gym (teams brought into the gym by division). The fourth qualifier will be announced via the Live Stream, and then those athletes will be invited back into the gym to get their state qualifier medals.

The PIAA Championships are April 10 at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa.

Should DuBois advance to Hershey, they will compete in the Class 3A classification. Any other District 9 squad to advance to the PIAA Championships, will be in Class 2A (either co-ed or single-sex competition depending on the team).
