District 10 Class 2A Wrestlers Look to Take the Next Step at Sharon

The District 10 Class2A Championships get underway this Saturday (Feb. 20) at 9:30 a.m. in Sharon.

                        

The top five place winners in each of the 13, eight-person brackets will advance to the NW Regional tournament (with District 9) on Feb. 27. The Parade of Champions is anticipated to start at 3:15, with the finals getting underway at approximately 3:30.

(Note: PA Power Wrestling [PAPW] state and regional [Districts 9 and 10] rankings are as of Tuesday, Feb. 16 and do not reflect any potential changes resulting from last weekend’s [Feb. 13] sectional tournament.)

  1. Hunter Robison (13-1) – Saegertown (Section 3-1st)
  2. Louie Gill (20-2) – Hickory (Section 1-1st)
  3. Hunter Gould (12-1) – Conneaut (Section 2-1st)
  4. Andie Przybycien (8-3) – Fort LeBoeuf (Section 4-1st)
  5. Alex Moore (5-4) – Mercer (Section 1-2nd)

Notes: Robison, now a junior, advanced to the state tournament in this class as a freshman after winning sections, placing second at districts, and third at regionals. Last week Robison claimed his second sectional title. He is ranked ninth in the state and second in the NW Region at 113 pounds by PAPW. Gill, a freshman, is ranked second in the state and first regionally. PAPW has Gould, a freshman, ranked ninth in the state and third in the region. A junior, Przybycien, won her first sectional title a week ago. She is ranked seventh regionally. Moore is a sophomore and will be making his first appearance at districts.

113 Pounds

  1. Justin O’Neill (20-4) – Hickory (Section 1-1st)
  2. Brody Beck (15-5) – Cambridge Springs (Section 3-1st)
  3. Jake Bennett (8-5) – Fort LeBoeuf (Section 4-1st)

Notes: O’Neill, a junior, is now a three-time district qualifier, but a first-time sectional champion. PAPW has him ranked 15th in the state and fourth regionally. Beck and Bennett are freshmen, with the latter ranked eighth regionally. Lantz won his sectional title last weekend after entering that tournament as the fifth seed. The sophomore was a regional qualifier in 2020. Mancuso is a sophomore.

Notes: Steen won his fourth consecutive sectional championship last weekend and will be aiming for a fourth district crown this weekend. A senior, Steen is a three-time state medalist; taking first at 106 pounds as a freshman, third at 106 pounds as a sophomore, and first at 113 pounds as a junior. He is ranked second in the state by PAPW and first regionally. Not only was Shoup’s sectional title last week his first, but this will also be the senior’s first appearance at districts. Przybycien, a freshman, is ranked third regionally. Krivosh and Kellogg are freshmen.

126 Pounds

  1. Jack Martinec (17-0) – Cochranton (Section 3-1st)
  2. Connor Saylor (21-4) – Hickory (Section 1-1st)
  3. Chase McLaughlin (16-1) – Greenville (Section 2-1st)
  4. Logan Platz (8-1) – Seneca (Section 4-1st)
  5. Alex Rueberger (18-6) – Sharpsville (Section 1-2nd)

Notes: After finishing as the sectional runner-up the past two seasons, Martinec finally broke through for his first title. A junior, he is ranked 11th in the state by PAPW and third in the NW Region. This was also Saylor’s first sectional title. The sophomore qualified for states last year at 113 pounds. He is ranked eighth in the state and first regionally. McLaughlin won his third consecutive sectional title. PAPW has the senior, a two-time state qualifier (most recently in 2020 at 120 pounds), ranked ninth in the state and second in the region. Platz, a junior, captured his first sectional title last weekend and will be making the trip to districts for the first time in his career. Rueberger is a freshman.

132 Pounds

  1. Kane Kettering (18-1) – Reynolds (Section 2-1st)
  2. Connor Pierce (13-2) – Harbor Creek (Section 4-1st)
  3. Jacob Williams (9-4) – Eisenhower (Section 3-1st)
  4. Cody Miller (16-7) – Hickory (Section 1-1st)
  5. Jackson Bowers (7-9) – Fort LeBoeuf (Section 4-2nd)

Notes: Kettering is ranked ninth in the state and second regionally by PAPW. This was the junior’s second consecutive sectional title. He was first at districts and second at regionals a year ago, qualifying for states in the 106-pound class. Pierce also won his second section sectional title in a row last weekend. In 2020 he won districts and regionals before placing seventh at 126 pounds in Hershey. The junior is ranked fourth in the state and first in the NW Region. Williams, a senior, will be making a second consecutive trip to districts, his first as sectional champ. A junior, Miller is a two-time regional qualifier and first-time sectional titlist. Bowers is a freshman.

138 Pounds

  1. Easton Hedman (11-2) – Eisenhower (Section 3-1st)
  2. Carson Filer (22-2) – Mercer (Section 1-1st)
  3. Ashten Armagost (9-3) – Commodore Perry (section 2-1st)
  4. Dominic Stearns (6-8) – Fort LeBoeuf (Section 4-1st)
  5. Hunter Hohman (20-1) – Grove City (Section 1-2nd)

Notes: Hedman won his first sectional championship last week to become a four-time district qualifier. The senior is ranked 25th in the state by PAPW. Filer, a two-time regional qualifier, is a first-time section titlist. PAPW has him ranked 21st in the state and third regionally. After placing second the past two years at sectionals, Armagost finally mounted the top step of the podium this year. A senior, Armagost, who will be making his fourth trip to districts, is ranked 24th in the state and fourth regionally.  He qualified for regionals as a sophomore. Stearns is a freshman. Also a freshman, Hohman is ranked 20th in the state and second in the NW Region.

145 Pounds

  1. Kaeden Berger (18-1) – Reynolds (Section 2-1st)
  2. Carter Gill (21-3) – Hickory (Section 1-1st)
  3. Jaeden Reagle (11-2) – Saegertown (Section 3-1st)
  4. Conner McChesney (9-4) – Fort LeBoeuf (Section 4-1st)
  5. Harrison Murray (20-4) – Mercer (Section 1-2nd)

Notes: Berger, now a four-time sectional champ, has advanced to the state tournament each of the past three seasons, finishing seventh in 2019 and fifth at 132 pounds in 2020. The senior is currently ranked third in the state and first regionally by PAPW (after descending from 152 to 145 pounds for the postseason). After finishing third as a freshman and second as a sophomore, Gill won his first sectional championship this, his junior, year. Gill is a two-time regional qualifier and finished sixth in Hershey a year ago as a 132-pounder. He is ranked fourth in the state and second in the NW Region. A senior, Reagle won sectionals for the second time in his career, the first title coming as a sophomore. He has qualified for regionals three times. PAPW has him ranked 20th in the state and third in the region. McChesney, a freshman, is ranked eighth in the NW Region. Murray, a senior, qualified for regionals in 2020.

He wrestled most of 2021 at 160 pounds. Jaquay is ranked 22nd in the state and fourth in the region. The junior, a two-time regional qualifier, won a sectional title for the first time this year. West is a sophomore.

PAPW has him ranked seventh regionally. Colton Smith, a senior, is going to districts for the second consecutive year after winning sectionals for the first time. He is ranked fifth in the region. Hesselgesser, now a three-time district qualifier, is a first-time sectional titlist. PAPW has the senior, who made the trip to regionals last year, ranked 24th in the state and fourth regionally. Clayton Smith, a junior, is now a two-time district qualifier. He advanced to regionals last season.

172 Pounds

  1. Gage Musser (18-1) – Commodore Perry (Section 2-1st)
  2. Landon Caldwell (13-1) – Saegertown (Section 3-1st)

Notes: Musser is now a two-time sectional champion and three-time district qualifier. The senior has qualified for regionals twice, advancing to states on both occasions. He finished fourth in Hershey a year ago at 160 pounds. PAPW ranks him fourth in the state and first in the region. Caldwell, a two-time regional qualifier, won sectionals for the second consecutive year. The junior is ranked fifth in the NW Region. Keep, a first-time sectional champ, qualified for regionals last season. The sophomore is ranked eighth regionally. Holland, a sophomore, qualified for districts a year ago. This is his first sectional championship. Ranked seventh regionally, Gourley, a senior, has qualified for regionals twice.

189 Pounds

  1. Cole Karpinski (19-0) – Greenville (Section 2-1st)
  2. Shawn Proctor (8-2) – Corry (Section 3-1st)
  3. Dan Church (11-2) – Fort LeBoeuf (Section 4-1st)
  4. Jake Elbaz (12-6) – Mercer (Section 1-1st)
  5. Nick Kaday (14-3) – Union City (Section 3-2nd)

Notes: Karpinski is a two-time regional qualifier and made the trip to Hershey a year ago as a 170-pounder. PAPW has the junior, a first-time section titlist, ranked 11th in the state and second in the NW Region. Proctor, a senior, won sectionals for the first time after entering last weekend’s tournament as the fourth seed. He is now a four-time district qualifier. Ranked 19th in the state and third regionally, he advanced to the regional tournament in 2020. Church, a sophomore, was a regional qualifier last season. The first-time sectional champ is ranked fifth in the NW Region. Elbaz, a first-time winner at sectionals, also qualified for districts last year. He is a junior. A senior, Kaday has now qualified for districts four times.

215 Pounds

  1. Tony Pilosi (11-1) – Slippery Rock (Section 1-1st)
  2. Hayden Linkerhof (9-1) – Corry (Section 3-1st)
  3. Trevor Tursky (9-5) – Conneaut (Section 2-1st)
  4. Greg Gruda (7-10) – Northwestern (Section 4-1st)
  5. Cael Black (19-1) – Eisenhower (Section 3-2nd)

Notes: Pilosi, a junior is not just a first-time sectional champion, but also a first-time district qualifier. Linkerhof, a junior, won sectionals for the second consecutive year. PAPW has the two-time regional qualifier ranked 10th in the state and fourth regionally. Tursky won sectionals last weekend after being seeded fifth. He previously won the sectional tournament as a freshman. The senior is now a four-time district qualifier. A state qualifier in 2020 at 195 pounds, Tursky is ranked 21st in the state and eighth in the region. Gruda is a freshman. Black is a two-time state qualifier, taking sixth at 220 pounds a season ago. The junior is ranked third in the state and first in the NW Region.

285 Pounds

  1. Jordan Schell (9-0) – Girard (Section 4-1st)
  2. Rocco John-Daniello (18-1) – Reynolds (Section 2-1st)
  3. Mike Mazurek (12-1) – Sharon (Section 1-1st)

Reyda, a junior, has won sectionals two years in a row and is moving onto districts for the third consecutive year. He is ranked fourth regionally. Nesevich, who has qualified for a third trip to districts, advanced to regionals in 2019. A senior, he is ranked eighth in the NW region.
