Dec. 29, 2021 D10 Girls Hoops: Maplewood Powers Past Northwestern; Grove City Gets Big Win; Garrity Erupts for Fairview

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Izzy Eimer scored 16 points as Maplewood beat Northwestern, 49-32 in the opening round of the CASH Christmas Tournament.

       

Maplewood led by just one at halftime, 22-21, but outscored the Wildcats 27-11 in the second half.

Kayden Bird and Taylor Stagl had six points each for Northwestern.

GROVE CITY 32, LAUREL 29

     

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Emma Santom led a balanced effort with 10 points as Grove City beat Laurel 32-29 for the Laurel Holiday Tournament title.

Karia Perample added seven points for the Eagles, while Hannah Rieber had six and Piper Como five.

Rieber was named tournament MVP and Santom was named to the all-tournament team.

Danielle Pontius and Joselynn Fortuna had eight points each for Laurel.

FAIRVIEW 49, GENERAL MCLANE 29

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Fairview built a 28-9 halftime lead on its way to a 49-29 win over General McLane in the SWISH Classic.

Hope Garrity exploded for 31 points in the win, including 20 in the first half.

     

Caroline Zentis had eight points and Ella Garrity six for the Tigers in the win.

Louisa Opp had 11 points to pace GM.

GREENVILLE 60, CONNEAUT (Pa.) 29

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Grace Cano connected for 20 points as Greenville powered past Conneaut, 60-29.

Josie Lewis also had a big game for the Trojans with 18 points, while Anna Harpst added 11.

Rylee Jones had 11 points and seven steals to pace Conneaut, while Jaelyn Blood had six points and four rebounds.

SEFFNER CHRISTIAN (FLA.) 62, WARREN 58

WESLEY CHAPEL, FLA. – Warren went toe-to-toe with the No. 4 ranked Class 3A team in Florida, dropping a 62-58 decision to Seffner Christian in the opening round of the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational.

The game was tight throughout, as the Crusaders led 24-22 at halftime and 43-39 after three quarters.

Emma Ruhlman went off in the first half for Warren (5-1), scoring 16 of her 20 points, while Riley Childress exploded for 18 of her 21 points in the second half for the Lady Dragons.

Nini Davenport helped deliver the win for the Crusaders (11-2), scoring 11 of her 24 points in the fourth quarter, including three triples. Milahnie Perry scored 10 of her 15 points in the second half as well for Seffner.

Sam Ruhlman added five points for the Lady Dragons, while Halle Kuzminski netted four, Alyssa Farr and Gracie Ruhlman three each and Lindsay Madigan two.

NESHANNOCK 70, FORT LEBOEUF 44

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Alee Young scored 17 points for Fort LeBoeuf, but it was Neshannock that earned a 70-44 win over the Bison at the Sally Ward Holiday Classic.

HICKORY 46, SHARPSVILLE 42

HERMITAGE, Pa. – McKenzie Gustas scored 19 points as Hickory earned a 46-42 win over Sharpsville.

Hickory outscored Sharpsville 15-7 in the fourth quarter, as Emily Duncan added nine points.

Alli Davis led Sharpsville with 14 points.

MERCER 44, TITUSVILLE 18

MERCER, Pa. – Julia Balaski scored 16 points as Mercer powered past Titusville, 44-18 in the opening round of the Mercer Christmas Tournament.

Ava Godrey added 11 points for Mercer, which built a 14-point first-quarter lead en route to the win.

Lilly Tucker paced Titusville with seven points.

MONITEAU 60, SHARON 28

MERCER, Pa. – Moniteau scored 27 points in the first quarter on its way to a 60-28 win over Sharon in the Mercer Christmas Tournament.

Catherine Kelly scored 21 points to lead the Warriors, including 15 in the first quarter. Davina Pry and Victoria Pry scored 14 and 12 points respectively for Moniteau.

Abby Jewart had seven points and five assists for the Warriors, while Davina Pry added eight rebounds and three blocks and Victoria Pry seven rebounds.

WILMINGTON 45, SHENANGO 17

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Kylee Rubin scored 16 points as Shenango beat Wilmington 45-17.

Lia Kraup led Wilmington with 12 points.
