Dec. 20, 2021 D10 Girls’ Hoops: Thomas, Maplewood Beat Greenville; Kennedy Catholic Tops McDowell in Non-Region Showdown

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Sadie Thomas scored 20 points as Maplewood earned a 69-53 win over Greenville.

The Tigers outscored the Trojans 31-13 in the first half, including 14-3 in the second quarter.

Thomas was one of four Maplewood players in double figures, as Bailey Varndell had 16, Lillianne Moorhead 14 and Izzy Eimer 10.

Grace Cano had 16 points for Greenville and Josie Lewis 14.

KENNEDY CATHOLIC 55, MERCER 44

                                      

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Hayden Keith led a balanced effort with 14 points as Kennedy Catholic earned an impressive non-region win over McDowell, 55-44.

Bellah DiNardo and Paris Gilmore netted 11 points each in the victory for the Golden Eagles.

Jessica Hetz led McDowell with 15 points and Amaiya Nelson had 12.

FRANKLIN 66, TITUSVILLE 9

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Lauren Billingsley scored 14 points to lead a balanced Franklin effort in a 66-9 win over Titusville.

                          

Billingsley also had five rebounds and dished out five assists. Camden Bashor posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four blocks, while Estelle Adams netted 10 points and pulled down five boards.

GROVE CITY 47, MERCER 32

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Delaney Callahan scored 21 points as Grove City earned a 47-32 win over Mercer.

Callahan got off to a hot start, scoring nine points in the first quarter and 13 in the first half as the Grove built a 24-13 halftime advantage.

Piper Como added nine points for the Eagles.

Delaney Fisher scored 10 points and Julia Balaski nine for Mercer.

COCHRANTON 49, GIRARD 45

GIRARD, Pa. – Jaylin McGill had a big game with 24 points as Cochranton outlasted Girard, 49-45.

Carly Richter added 12 points for Cochranton and Chelsey Freyermuth added eight.

The Lady Cardinals trailed 27-25 at halftime, but went on a 13-7 run in the third quarter.

                                   

One game after hitting the 1,000-point milestone, Girard’s Kayla Sharman had another big effort, netting a game-high 27 points.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 44, NORTHWESTERN 31

ALBION, Pa. – Cambridge Springs jumped out to a 14-point lead after the first quarter on their way to a 44-31 win over Northwestern.

Makenzie Yanc led the way with 18 points, while Maddie Yanc had 16 for the Blue Devils.

Taylor Stagl paced Northwestern with nine points.

UNION CITY 50, ROCKY GROVE 20

UNION CITY, Pa. – Cathryn Reynolds scored 18 points to help Union City beat Rocky Grove, 50-20.

Michayla Magee added 11 points and Jessica Messenger eight for the Bears.

Abby Williams had 13 points for Rocky Grove.

HICKORY 55, FARRELL 54

FARRELL, Pa. – Emily Duncan scored 22 points as Hickory held off Farrell, 55-54.

Farrell had the ball in the closing moments, but the Hickory defense didn’t allow them to get a shot off.

Mariah Swanson and Kaelyn Fustos each hit big free throws to help the Hornets to the win. Swanson finished with 12 points and Malana Beach 12 for the Hornets.

Sanaa Brodie had 16 points for Farrell and Gabby King 10.

HARBOR CREEK 46, SENECA 35

                                  

HARBORCREEK, Pa. – Brooke Przybylski scored 19 points to lead Harbor Creek to a 46-35 win over Seneca.

Harbor Creek built a 12-point halftime advantage on its way to the win.

Lauren Konkol led Seneca with 10 points.

VENANGO CATHOLIC 51, YOUNGSVILLE 32

OIL CITY, Pa. – Lily Homan hit five 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 25 points, as Venango Catholic dispatched visiting Youngsville, 51-32.

Homan completed a double-double with 10 steals, while Mariah Wessell added 10 points, and Sadie Kalajmakao a team-high 10 rebounds to go with six points.

Kenzie Olewine and Mia Rafalski each scored nine points for Youngsville.

VILLA MARIA 68, SHADOW RIDGE (Nev.) 59

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – Jayden McBride scored 19 points as Villa earned a 69-59 win over Shadow Ridge in their third game at the Tarkanian Classic.

Carissa Dunahm and Addie Biel netted 17 points each for the Victors.
