Dec. 11 District 9 girls’ basketball recaps

DUBOIS 43, BROCKWAY 36

BROCKWAY, Pa. – DuBois’ defense limited Brockway star Selena Buttery to just three points, and the Lady Beavers used a balanced offense to defeat the Lady Rovers, 43-36, in the championship game of the Brockway Tip-off To.

Abby Geist-Salone led the Lady Beavers with 10 points, including seven in the first quarter, which helped DuBois take a 12-6 lead after eight minutes.

Allie Snyder chipped in nine points for DuBois with Alexas Pfeufer adding seven.

                                      

Danielle Wood had a game-high 21 points for Brockway with 18 coming after halftime. She was 14 of 16 from the free-throw line. She also had six rebounds.

Ciara Morelli added six points for the Lady Rovers. Buttery did grab 14 rebounds despite being limited in the scoring column.

CLARION 42, MONITEAU 38

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Behind 20 points, eight steals, and six rebounds from Jordan Best, Clarion beat Moniteau, 42-38, in the consolation game of the Brockway Tip-off Tournament.

Gia Babington hit three 3-pointers on her way to 11 points for the Lady Cats, while Taylor Alston snagged a team-high 14 rebounds to go with five points and four steals, and Payton Simko added five rebounds and four steals.

                          

Catherine Kelly led Moniteau with 14 points with Victoria Pry adding eight.

NORTH CLARION 51, BROOKVILLE 21

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Tournament MVP Gwen Siegel poured in 14 points and helped power North Clarion to a 51-21 win over host Brookville to win its Tip-Off Tournament title.

The She-Wolves led 15-8 after one quarter, 28-10 at halftime, and set the PIAA Mercy Rule running clock into motion 44-14 by the 2:03 mark of the third quarter. All-Tourney pick Madison McFarland was the other North Clarion player in double figures with 11 points. The She-Wolves shot 50 percent (23-for-46) from the field as eight different players out of 20 who saw playing time found the scoring column.

Conversely, the Lady Raiders missed 31 of 35 shots from the floor. Eden Wonderling, Elizabeth Wonderling, and Reggan Olson each scored five points.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 51, CLEARFIELD 45

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – The second team to hold off a second-half rally by Clearfield in as many days, Clarion-Limestone blew a 13-point third-quarter lead before holding on for a 51-45 win in the Brookville Tip-Off Tournament consolation game.

Alex Leadbetter was one of four C-L players to reach double figures in scoring with 16 points to go along with nine rebounds. All-Tournament pick Frances Milliron scored 11 points, nine of them in the second half, and Kendall Dunn and Alyssa Wiant each had double-double games. Dunn scored 10 points with 12 rebounds while Wiant finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

C-L led 34-21 on a Milliron basket with 6:30 left in the third quarter and then by 10 at 40-30 after a Leadbetter hoop with under seven minutes left in the fourth before Clearfield went on a 10-0 to tie the game at 40-40. However, Clearfield could never grab the lead.

Leadbetter’s steal and layup put C-L up 49-44 with 2:15 remaining, then Milliron hit two of four free thrown in the final minute to set the final.

All-Tourney pick Emma Hipps scored 11 points with six rebounds for the Lady Bison while Cayleigh Walker had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Riley Ryan also scored 11 points.

REDBANK VALLEY 67, IROQUOIS 8

REDBANK VALLEY 67, FRANKLIN 8

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Routing Iroquois, 67-8, Redbank Valley finished off a 2-0 weekend at the Franklin Elks Tournament at Franklin High School/

The tournament was a “classic” setup with pre-scheduled rounds of play and no title.

The Lady Bulldogs led 42-4 at halftime.

Caylen Rearick and Madison Foringer each scored 16 points while Mylee Harmon and Clair Clouse scored 14 and 11 points respectively.

Iroquois Alena Krysioh scored three points.

FRANKLIN 50, VENANGO CATHOLIC 41, OVERTIME

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Lauren Billingsley scored 15 points, including a late three-pointer to help send the game to overtime as Franklin outlasted Venango Catholic, 50-41.

Camdon Bashor had a double-double for Franklin with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Estella Adams added eight points.

                                  

Lily Homan poured in a game-high 23 points for Venango Catholic, including a 15-of-21 effort from the free-throw line. Mariah Wessell chipped in with 10 points for the Lady Vikings. Wessell also had four rebounds and four steals, while Homan had seven steals and Sadie Kalajmaka five rebounds.

AUSTIN 35, GALETON 13

GALETON, Pa. – Behind 16 points and six steals from Ella Brewer. Austin toppled Galeton, 35-13, in the consolation game of the Galeton Tip-off Tournament.

Isabella Rees added 11 points, eight rebounds, and four steals for the Lady Panthers who also got 11 rebounds and two points from Jade Williams and 10 rebounds and three points from Ally Nelson.

Johanna Dickerson led Galeton with four points.

RIDGWAY 32, ST. MARYS 29, OVERTIME

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Trailing by nine at halftime, Ridgway turned up the defensive pressure limiting St. Marys to just six points in the second half and overtime on its way to a come-from-behind 32-29 overtime victory over the Lady Dutch in the championship game of the Johnsonburg Tip-off Tournament.

The Lady Elkers were down 23-14 at halftime and 28-23 going the fourth quarter before holding St. Marys to one point over the final 12 minutes of the game, including none in overtime.

Four fourth-quarter points from Carli Thomas helped Ridgway send the game to overtime tied at 29, and then Jenna Kasmierski hit the only basket in the overtime session while Julie Peterson added a free throw.

Kasmierski led Ridgway with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Thomas added 12 points, 10 in the second half, to go with six rebounds.

Also for the Lady Elkers, Payton Delhunty had four rebounds, three assists, and a steal.

Jayssa Snelick had all nine of her points in the first half for St. Marys, while Maura Caskey also scored nine points.

JOHNSONBURG 36, COUDERSPORT 31

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Kaci Stelene had a double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds to help Johnsonburg to its first win of the season, 36-31, over Coudersport in the consolation game of the Johnsonburg Tip-off Tournament.

Tess Kocjancic tied for game-high honors with 12 points for the Ramettes while adding seven rebounds.

Liz Frame had 12 points to lead Coudersport.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 50, WILMINGTON 29

KARNS CITY, Pa. – A huge second half helped DuBois Central Catholic cruise to a 50-29 win over Wilmington in the championship game of the Karns City Tip-off Tournament.

The Lady Cardinals trailed by a point, 18-17, at halftime before outscoring the Greyhounds 33-11 in the second halftime including 17-4 in the third quarter.

Kayley Riser was the driving force behind the big third-quarter push scoring eight of her game-high 18 points in the quarter while netting 12 second-half points. She finished a double-double with 11 rebounds.

Faith Jacob also had a double-double for DCC with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Lia Karup led Wilmington with eight points.

KARNS CITY 57, A-C VALLEY 16

KARNS CITY, Pa. – A 17-point effort from Emma Dailey helped Karns City beat A-C Valley, 57-16, in the consolation game of the Karns City Tip-off Tournament.

Eleven different Lady Gremlins scored in the game with Cameryn Booher adding nine points and Emma Johns seven.

Mackenzie Parks led A-C Valley with seven points.

KEYSTONE 25, JAMESTOWN 24

WARREN, Pa – Natalie Bowser scored nine points as Keystone outlasted Jamestown 25-24 in the consolation game of the Warren Tip-Off Tournament.

Sydney Bell added eight points for Keystone, which led by nine in the second half before holding off a late Jamestown rally.

Jillian McElhinney had 11 points to lead Jamestown. Bowser and McElhinney were both named to the all-tournament team.

PORTVILLE (N.Y.) 43, OTTO-ELDRED 31

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Mia Welty netted 14 points and Lillian Bentley 11 to help Portville (N.Y.) to the championship of the Randy Stebbins Memorial Tournament at Otto-Eldred with a 43-31 win over the hosts.

Bri Heller paced Otto-Eldred with 13 points and four rebounds with Anna Merry adding eight points and four rebounds. Katie Sheeler was limited to four points but did grab eight rebounds.

BUTLER 55, PUNXSUTAWNEY 35

KITTANNING, Pa. – Makenna Maier hit five 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 24 points to help Butler past Punxsutawney, 55-35, in the consolation game of the Armstrong Tip-off Tournament.

Chloe Presloid paced Punxsutawney with 12 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and an assist, while Kierstin Riley added eight points and eight rebounds.

WELLSVILLE (N.Y.) 46, NORTHERN POTTER 21

WESTFIELD, Pa. – Marley Adams scored 14 points to help Wellsville (N.Y.) to a 46-21 win over Northern Potter in the championship game of the Cowanesque Valley Tip-off Tournament.

Emily Costello and Jadynn Knapp each added eight points in the win.

Megan Hyde paced Northern Potter with nine points.

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 27, CURWENSVILLE 25

PHILIPSBURG, Pa. – Curwensville dug itself a 13-point hole after one quarter and couldn’t quite overcome it in a 27-25 loss to Philipsburg-Osceola in the championship game of the Philipsburg-Osceola Tip-off Tournament.

The Lady Tide trailed 16-3 at the end of the first quarter but outscored the Mounties 22-11 the rest of the way.

Lily Warlow led P-O with 16 points, including 11 in the first quarter.

Skylar Pentz had seven points for Curwensville with Alyssa Bakaysa and Kyra Henry each adding six points.

TITUSVILLE 40, CRANBERRY 38

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Lilly Tucker and Bri Wynn scored 10 points each as Titusville outlasted Cranberry 40-38 in the consolation game of the Roy Sanner Memorial Tournament.

Ava Matteson added eight points for Titusville, which outscored Cranberry 15-9 in the third quarter en route to the win.

Maddy Bunyak had 10 points, all in the first half. for Cranberry, while Allie Rembold added nine.
