Corry Wins Preliminary Round Match in Class 2A Wrestling, Advances to Hershey

TYRONE, Pa. – Corry advanced to Hershey and the first round of the PIAA Class 2A team wrestling championships with a 36-29 win at Tyrone in the preliminary round on Monday.

                        

The Beavers, the third-place team out of District 10, clinched the win over Tyrone with a Xavier Reyda 2-0 decision over Braden Ewing at 285.

Cody Proper (120) and Logan Hodak (126) got the Beavers rolling with second and first-period pins, respectively.

The Beavers racked up the bonus points, as Trey Proper earned a tech fall at 152, Mason Savitz a third-period pin at 172, Ethyn Allen an 11-1 major decision at 189, and Hayden Linerkhof a third-period pin at 215.

With the win, the Beavers advance to face District 11 champion Notre Dame-Green Pond in the first round on Thursday at Hershey’s GIANT Center.

                              

BURGETTSTOWN 34, FORT LEBOEUF 28

WATERFORD, Pa. – Fort LeBoeuf’s bid to advance to Hershey came up just short in a 34-28 loss to Burgettstown in the preliminary round of the PIAA Class 2A wrestling championships.

Burgettstown will face Brookville Thursday in the first round in Hershey.
