HARRISBURG, Pa. – Despite recommending against it, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf said that the decision to play sports in the commonwealth can and will continue to be made by local school districts.
Speaking at a press conference Thursday morning, Wolf said: “The guidance from us, the recommendation is that we don’t do any sports until January 1st.”

Wolf had a conference call with PIAA officials in the afternoon in which the PIAA urged Wolf to reconsider his position. He did not.
He sent out a press release a short time later reiterating that it is up to each individual school district to make its own decision.
“The administration is providing a strong recommendation and not an order or mandate,” the release said. “As with dealing with whether students should return to in-person classes, remote learning or a blend of the two this fall, school administrators and locally elected school boards should make decisions on sports.”
On Wednesday, District 10 officials met and determined that they would be going ahead with fall sports as scheduled.
