Clearfield Sweeps D9 Swimming Team Titles; Young Smashes Record in 100 Fly

ST. MARYS, Pa. – The Clearfield boys and girls swept the District 9 swimming team titles, while Brookville’s Patrick Young broke a meet and pool record in the 100 fly.

The girls finished with 313, edging Brookville (303), with St. Marys third (223) and Bradford fourth (133).

The Clearfield boys finished with 316 points, with DuBois second (221), Bradford third (185), Brookville fourth (174), and St. Marys fifth 118.

Young, who attends North Clarion and swims for Brookville through a co-op, finished with a time of 51.74 in the 100 fly, with the pool record of Clearfield’s Luke Mikesell set in 2019 at 51.91, while the D9 meet record was set by Steven Forrest in 2007 at 52.26.

Young was also a winner in the 100 breaststroke.

On the girls’ side, Union’s Evie Bliss won two individual golds in the 200 free and 100 free, as did Moniteau’s Katie Reott in the 50 free and 100 backstroke.

The St. Marys quartet of Gabby Pistner, Sophie Condon, Allison Geci, and Sarah Krise teamed to win both the 200 free relay and 400 free relay, while Krise was also a winner in the 100 fly.

Clearfield’s Nicholas Vaow had a big meet on the boys’ side, taking home golds in the 200 free and 100 fly, while teaming with Derrick Mikesell, Connor Morgan, and Landyn Rankin to win both the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

DuBois’ Jaedon Yarus won the 50 free and teamed with Connor McAllister, Spencer Bridgman, and Joda Fenstermacher to win the 400 free relay.

Fenstermacher also won the 400 free relay.

The PIAA championships begin March 15 at Bucknell University.
