Central Clarion/Punxsutawney Football Canceled; Wildcats Will Now Play Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Game off, game on.

The Central Clarion Wildcats were scheduled to host Punxsutawney in the season opener in football, but COVID-related issues with the Chucks forced a Friday morning cancelation per the Punxsutawney Area School District.

Both Central Clarion and Slippery Rock moved quickly, with the Rockets actively looking for a game since their scheduled season opener against Fort LeBoeuf was canceled due to COVID-related issues with the Bison on Thursday evening.

Tonight’s game will be at Slippery Rock’s Troy-Alan Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The Central Clarion County/Punxsutawney game marked the third D9/D10 game to be canceled in the opening week, as Mercyhurst Prep’s scheduled contest with Penns Valley is also off.
