C-L Tops Redbank in Five Set Thriller; Fort LeBoeuf, Austin Earn Wins (Sept. 18 VB Recaps)

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – In a back-and-forth match that saw four of the five sets decided by two points and two sets go to extra points, Clarion-Limestone held off visiting Redbank Valley, 3-2 (24-26, 25-20, 28-26, 23-25, 15-13).

After dropping the first set, C-L won the next two and looked poised to take the match in four sets when it took a 20-11 lead in the fourth set.

But Redbank Valley fought back to force a fifth-and-deciding set by scoring 15 of the final 18 points in the fourth set.

               

In the final set, the teams battled back and forth again and were tied at 13 when Izzy Bond put down a kill.

But a kill by Alyssa Wiant followed by an ace from Wiant sent the set and the match to the Lady Lions.

The match ending on an ace for C-L was appropriate considering it was the 17th unofficial ace in the match for the Lady Lions.

Wiant had six aces with Jenna Dunn adding five and Hannah Beggs three.

Ansley Burke led the way at the net for C-L with 15 kills, including nine in the three sets the Lady Lions won. She was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Match and talked about the win on the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview.

   

Jenna Dunn added nine kills, 11 digs, and five aces with Beggs contributing eight kills and 15 digs and Maddy Greeley chipping in seven kill.

Kaylee Smith ran the offense for C-L with 35 set assists.

Izzy Bond had a match-high 18 kills for Redbank Valley to go with 11 digs with Taylor Ripple adding 15 kills, 17 digs, and three blocks and Mylee Harmon chipping in eight kills, 11 digs, and three aces.

Elaina Carrico ran the offense for Redbank Valley with 26 set assists.

FORT LEBOEUF 3, GENERAL MCLANE 0

EDINBORO, Pa. – Fort LeBoeuf earned a 3-0 win over General McLane, 25-15, 25-14, 25-15, as Katelynn Olmstead and Mya Stolz had six kills each.

Kiernan Skelton also had eight set assists for the Bison, while Bella Johnson had six digs.

Cassidy Swain had four kills and Ella Sturgess three for LeBoeuf, Ellah Beachly eight digs, Morgan Frick six set assists, five digs and one ace and Pacey Moran three set assist and seven digs.

AUSTIN 3, SMETHPORT 0

                           

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Isabella Rees had nine kills, two blcoks and three aces as Austin beat Smethport, 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-6).

Marah Fowler had 19 set assists and two aces for Austin, while Ella Brewer had 10 digs.

COCHRANTON 3, ERIE FIRST CHRISTIAN 0

ERIE, Pa. – Brooklyn Needler had 10 kills and 11 aces to help lead Cochranton to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-4, 25-6) win over Erie First Christian.

Maggie Jackson had 25 set assists and four aces for the Cardinals, while Dani Hoffman had 10 kills and nine digs, Claire McCartney nine kills and Macie Williams 10 digs and seven aces.

           

COUDERSPORT 3, GALETON 0

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Madyson Dubots-Angood had 13 digs and six kills to help Coudersport to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-22) win over Galeton.

Sierra Myers had 13 kills and seven digs for the Falcons, while Emilee Ruter had 20 digs.

CRANBERRY 3, A-C VALLEY 0

FOXBURG, Pa. – Ayanna Ferringer had three aces, seven kills and six digs as Cranberry beat A-C Valley, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-19).

Also leading the Berries were Avery Coe (4 assists, 3 kills, 3 digs), Allie Rembold (11 set assists), Sarah Schoch (4 kills, 3 digs).

Maddy Delhart had five kills and three blocks for A-C Valley, while Bella Ielase had three kills and nine digs, Lexi Altman 12 set assists and Hannah Ithen two kills and two blocks.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 3, KARNS CITY 0

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Danielle Griebel ran the Punxsutawney offense to the tune of 35 set assists as the Chucks beat Karns City, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-17).

Griebel also had four digs, while Ciara Toven had two aces and 14 kills, Samantha Griebel eight kills and 10 digs, Kinsee Barnett five kills and three blocks, Zoey Hoover three kills, Kylie Diem four kills and one block, Brynn Hergert 10 digs, Emily Wisnesky two aces, one kills and four digs and Madelyn Neely three digs.

For Karns City, Ava Fox had three aces, six kills, two set assists and seven digs, Kendall Ritzert one ace, one kill, 10 set assists and three digs, Haylie Karenbauer three kills and one dig, Naomi Venesky five kills, one block and three digs, Cayley Craig two aces, four kills and four digs, Ashley Mauer one ace, five set assists and six digs and Nicole Taylor eight digs.

OIL CITY, Pa. – Ava Patrick had six kills and three blocks as Keystone swept Oil City, 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 30-28).

Also for the Panthers, Katherine Burrows had six aces and five kills, Bryanna Mong 11 set assists and Gywn Manno 15 digs.

Adrianna Cochran had seven kills for Oil City, while Shayla Hanon had three kills, Molly Mietus four blocks, Nicki Petro three blocks and Chayse Skinner 12 set assists.

MCDOWELL 3, NORTHWESTERN 0

ERIE, Pa. – Halle Guentner had nine assists, seven aces and five digs as McDowell beat Northwestern, 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-21).

Also for the Trojans, Josie Plaster had six assists and six digs, Chase Rech eight digs and Ana Fetzner five kills.

OSWAYO VALLEY 3, NORTHERN POTTER 1

ULYSSES, Pa. – Laci Miller-Geiger had a strong game running the offense with 33 set assists while also collecting five aces, one kills and four digs as Oswayo Valley beat Northern Potter, 3-1 (26-28, 25-13, 25-8, 25-20).

Olivia Cook had 18 kills, 11 digs, three blocks and one ace for the Green Wave, while MaKenna Manning had 10 kills, eight digs and two blocks.

Haylee Chapman had seven kills, five digs, and two blocks for Northern Potter while Kayden Brown added 11 digs, five set assists, and three aces, and Nevaeh Kio chipped in seven digs.

HARBOR CREEK 3, ERIE 0

HARBORCREEK, Pa. – Hannah Smith had 14 kills to help Harbor Creek to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-17) win over Erie High.

Liz Gunther had eight kills for the Huskies, while Taylor Vickey had five kills, Talon King 29 set assists and Aly Hester five digs.

ST. MARYS 3, RIDGWAY 0

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Hannah Ritter had 12 kills and Rylee Nicklas seven as St. Marys earned a 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-22) win over Ridgway.

Ava Johnson and Jianna Gerg had eight digs each for St. Marys, while Rylee Nicklas had five aces and Molly Hanslovan three aces.

WEST MIDDLESEX 3, GREENVILLE 0

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Maggie Briggs had six kills and Caitlin Stephens, Avery Hanahan and Emma Mild five each as West Middlesex beat Greenville, 5-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-18).

Stephens also had two blocks, seven digs and 11 set assists, while Hanahan had 15 digs and three aces, Briggs two blocks, Mild 18 digs, Mercedes McNutt 15 digs, Salon Mild 12 digs and Abby Stinedurf 10 set assists and five digs.

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Curwensville rallied after dropping the first set to earn a 3-1 win over Williamsburg, 21-25, 25-13, 25-22, 26-24.

Savannah Carfley had 17 set assists, one kill and one ace, while Briah Peoples had nine kills and six aces, Ava Olosky 10 kills and three aces, Janelle Passmore three kills and four aces, Alaina Reitz five digs, Brooklyn Price 10 kills and Bella Wood seven kills and four digs.

PORT ALLEGANY 3, CAMERON COUNTY 0

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Ella Moses had seven kills, three set assists and 10 digs as Port Allegany earned a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-20).

Also for the Gators, Isla Lehmier had four aces and 16 set assists, Kayleigha Dowell six kills, 10 digs and eight set assists and Lily Lehmier five aces.

BROOKVILLE 3, UNION 0

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Whitney Guth and Julie Monnoyer had six kills each as Brookville blanked Union, 3-0.

Monnoyer also had two blocks, while Jordan Daisley, Natasha Rush and Samantha Whitling had three aces each.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Anora Robare had 31 set assists as Slippery Rock earned a 3-1 (25-15, 25-20, 25-27, 25-20).

Avalee Demidovich had 13 kills for Slippery Rock, while Lexi Plesakov had 14 digs.

Also for the Raiders, Annie Loposky had two aces, two digs, five kills and 17 assists, Ava Murcko three aces, six kills and one block, Adriana DeJulia six digs, Rylee Gearhart six digs and seven kills and Kalen Trapp four kills.

Hannah Hart had 10 kills and Alayna Cadman five for Jamestown.
