Busy Day of Girls Semifinal Action Wednesday in District 10

WARREN, Pa. – It’s semifinal Wednesday in District 10 girls basketball, as tickets will be punched to the championship games in Class 5A, 3A and 2A, while McDowell hosts Allderice in a Class 6A subregional.

Defending champions Warren (5A), Fairview (3A) and Cambridge Springs (2A) are all still alive in their respective semifinal brackets.

Here’s a look at the matchups.

Class 5A Semifinals

                                      

(1) Warren vs. (4) Grove City at Hagerty Family Events Center, 6 p.m.

Records: Warren 17-6; Grove City 15-8

Notable: Warren used a 16-4 run in the third quarter to pull away from General McLane in the quarterfinals. Grove City jumped on Franklin early in a 44-27 quarterfinal win.

(2) Slippery Rock vs. (3) Harbor Creek at Meadville HS, 6 p.m.

Records: Slippery Rock 13-8, Harbor Creek 14-8

Notable: Harbor Creek rallied for a thrilling 41-40 win over Conneaut in the quarterfinals, while Slippery Rock led from start to finish in its quarterfinal win over Hickory.

Notable: Fairview got off to a slow start against Wilmington in the quarterfinals, trailing by one at the end of the first quarter, but ended up winning comfortably, 43-19. Greenville’s Harpst connected on eight threes in a quarterfinal win over North East.

(2) Lakeview vs. (3) Mercyhurst Prep at Sharon HS, 6 p.m.

Records: Lakeview 20-3; Mercyhurst Prep 16-7

Notable:Lakeview went on a 19-6 third-quarter run en route to its 52-39 quarterfinal win over Northwestern. Mercyhurst Prep led from start to finish in its 53-25 quarterfinal win over Sharpsville.

Class 2A Semifinals

(1) West Middlesex vs. (4) Cochranton at Sharon HS, 7:30 p.m.

Records: West Middlesex – 18-3; Cochranton 13-10

Notable: Anthony and Beatty combined for 35 points in their quarterfinal win over Saegertown. McGill led three players in double figures with 17 points in Cochranton’s 60-35 quarterfinal win over Mercer.

(2) Maplewood vs. (3) Cambridge Springs at Meadville HS, 7:30 p.m.

Records: Maplewood 20-3; Cambridge Springs 17-5

Winner Gets: District 6 champion Mifflin County on Saturday.
Notable: McDowell hasn’t given up more than 35 points in any of its wins this season.
