Brockway Girls Tennis Rolls Past Punxsutawney

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Winning all four singles matches plus a pair of doubles matches, Brockway rolled past visiting Punxsutawney, 6-1, in the girls’ season tennis opener for both squads Monday at Brockway.

Selena Buttery and Taylor Rhed both won three-set tiebreakers at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively and then teamed up to also win their No. 1 doubles match to lead the way for the Lady Rovers.

Buttery defeated Chloe Presloid 7-5, 3-6, (10-7), while Rhed rallied past Emily McMahon 3-6, 6-2, (10-6).

            

The duo then teamed up to top the No. 1 Punxsutawney doubles team of Presloid and McMahon, 8-2.

For their efforts, Buttery and Rhed were named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Players of the Match.

Also picking up singles wins for Brockway were Maci Dixon at No. 3 and Hannah Zucolotto at No. 4.

Dixon was in a slugfest with Hannah Pearce before Pearce was forced to retire due to an illness in the second set, while Zucolotto beat Brooke Skarbek, 6-1, 6-1.

Dixon and Zucolotto then won No. 2 doubles, 8-5, while Leah Trunzo and Emma Miller to No. 3 doubles for the Lady Rovers, 8-4.
