DUBOIS, Pa. – Morgan Pasternak broke a one-all tie with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and DuBois went on to beat visiting St. Marys, 5-2, at Heindl Field in DuBois.

After taking the 3-1 lead on Pasternak’s homer, the Lady Beavers added two more runs in the sixth on a sac fly by Lauren Walker and an Allie Snyder base hit to push the lead to 5-1 before St. Marys got one run back in the seventh.

Pasternak also doubled in the game and was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Snyder was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Gabby Gulvas scored three times for the Lady Beavers and went 2-for-3 with a triple.

Kendall Young was 2-for-3 for St. Marys, and Jianna Gerg went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Risser was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored, Morelli was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored, and Hoyt was 1-for-2 with a triple and a run scored for the Lady Cardinals.

In getting the win, Hoyt struck out 10.

ELIZABETH-FORWARD 5, BROOKVILLE 4

DUBOIS, Pa. – Griffin Ruhlman hit AJ Wardropper with a pitch with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Elizabeth-Forward walked off Brookville, 5-4.

Rewatch the game

Isaiah Hart got the seventh-inning rally started for the Warriors when he singled to left, and he moved to second on a wild pitch before going to third on a groundout by Logan Cherepko.

Brookville manager Chad Weaver then intentionally walked Kaden Faychak and Cameron Seabol only to have the move backfire when Ruhlman hit Wardropper with the first pitch to the E-F batter.

It was a game of missed opportunities for the Raiders, as they left 11 runners on base, including seven over the final three innings.

Brookville had a runner at third and no outs in the fifth only to see Hunter Roney thrown out at the plate trying to score on a Bryce Rafferty groundout against a drawn-in infield.

The Raiders, though, were able to load the bases in the inning with one out after walks to Griffin Ruhlman and Carson Weaver. But Owen Caylor struck out and Riley Smith grounded into a force play to end the threat.

Brookville then had runners on first and second with no outs in each of the next two innings but failed to score in either of those as well.

Flipping the coin, Brookville’s defense did turn a pair of inning-ending double plays to thwart E-F rallies.

In the first inning, after falling behind 3-0, the Warriors got a run back on a Mitchell Lacko single with one out that put runners on second and third. Faychak was then intentionally walked, and Hunter Geer got Seabol to ground into a 4-6-3 inning-ending double play.

Then, after E-F tied the game with two runs in the fourth, the Warriors put runners on first and second with one out in the fifth against Ruhlman, who induced a ground-ball double play to third baseman Caylor, who stepped on third and fired across the infield to end the inning.

E-F turned a big double play of its own in the first inning after Brookville grabbed a 2-0 lead without recording and out on a double by Geer, a single by Jamison Rhoades, a double by Roney, and a fielder’s choice that scored a run without recording an out by Rafferty.

But with runners on first and third, Ruhlman rolled into a 6-4-3 double play that while scoring a run cleaned things up for Faychak, the E-F starter.

Brookville restored the three-run lead with a run in the second when Smith doubled with one out and scored on a single by Rhoades.

Leadoff walks by Geer in the third and fourth, though, allowed the Warriors back in the game.

Hart had an RBI single in the third after Nate Ratica led off the inning with a single and stole second. Hart, though, was standing on third with one out after an error on the left fielder Weaver but never got any farther as Geer got the next two outs.

In the fourth, a walk to Seabol leading off the inning was followed by Waldropper getting hit by a pitch setting up a sac fly from AJ Palmer and an RBI single by Ratica.

Hart led E-F at the plate going 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Ratica was 2-fo-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Roney was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and a run scored for Brookville with Geerr going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, and Rhoades was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Palmer got the win in relief of Faychak. He went four scoreless innings allowing two hits and four walks while hitting a batter and striking out one.

Faychak pitched three innings giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out four.

Ruhlman took the loss in relief of Geer pitching 2 ⅓ innings allowing one earned run on two hits, four walks (two intentional), and two hit batters. He struck out one.

Geer pitched four innings allowing four earned runs on five hits, three walks, and a hit batter while striking out two.
