BASEBALL

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 9, JOHNSONBURG 4

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – In a battle of defending District 9 champions, Class 1A DuBois Central Catholic used a five-run sixth inning to beat Class 2A Johnsonburg, 9-4, at Knothole Park in Johnsonburg.

The Cardinals were clinging to a 4-3 lead when they erupted for the five runs in the sixth thanks to RBI hits by Brayden Fox, Kaden Brezinski, Nick Colbey, and Matt Pyne to break things open.

   

                  

Brezenski had a big day going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBIs to lead DCC, while Carter Hickman was also 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.

Colbey also drove in two runs while going 1-for-4, while Cole Sansom (3-for-5, 2 runs scored) and Ben Gritzer (3-for-5, 1 run scored) each had three hits and Fox (2-for-5, 1 run, 1 RBI) two hits.

Hickman got the win in relief of Brandin Anderson going four innings allowing two earned runs on four hits and five walks while striking out one.

Anderson pitched three innings allowing two earned runs on five hits, four walks, and a hit batter while striking out six.

Aiden Zimmerman was 2-for-5 with two RBIs to pace Johnsonburg with Camron Marciniak going 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Kaden Dennis also had a double for the Rams.

                          

Luke Zimmerman took the loss going three innings allowing four earned runs on six hits and four walks while striking out two. Aiden Zimmerman also pitched three innings allowing five earned runs on 10 hits while striking out six. Jefferson Freeburg pitched a scoreless inning walking one.

KANE 4, A-C VALLEY/UNION 3

DUBOIS, Pa. – Harley Morris scored on a throwing error by catcher Lane Bauer following a dropped third strike in the top of the seventh inning to give Kane a 4-3 win over A-C Valley/Union at Stern Field in DuBois.

Morris started the inning with a single and stole second base before scoring when Andy Jekielek struck out but reached on the passed ball/throwing error.

               

A-C Valley/Union had tied the game in the bottom of the sixth Zeke Causey scored on a Morris error on a ball hit by Ryan Cooper.

Shane Ackley was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Kane with Jekielek going 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs and Morris was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.

Sebastian Link was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, and an RBI for Union/A-C Valley.

Jekielek got the win for the Wolves going four innings allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out three.

Morris started for Kane and went three innings allowing an earned run on two hits and five walks while striking out five.

Bailey Crissman took the loss going 6 ⅓ innings allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits, two walks, and a hit batter while striking out eight. Alex Preston pitched ⅔ of an inning striking out one.

CLEARFIELD 4, BALD EAGLE AREA 2

HYDE, Pa. – A strong pitching outing from Kyle Elensky helped Clearfield down visiting Bald Eagle Area, 4-2.

Elensky went seven innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out seven.

Morgan Billotte drove in a pair of runs for the Bison going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, while Ryan Gearhart was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a run scored, and RBI.

            

Kahale Burns went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Bald Eagle with Ethan Koleno going 2-for-3.

Westin McClain took the loss going five innings allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and four walks while striking out five.

CURWENSVILLE 5, WILLIAMSBURG 2

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Scoring all five runs in its final two at-bats, Curwensville knocked off visiting Williamsburg, 5-2.

The Golden Tide trailed 2-0 from the first inning on until tying the game with a pair of runs in the fifth on a two-run, two-out single to left by Spencer Hoover.

Curwensville then took the lead in the sixth on a two-run single by Thad Butler before a Jake Mullins’s groundout scored another run.

The late runs made a winner out Mullins, who went six innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits, three walks, and a hit batter while striking out seven. Shane Sunderling got the save striking out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh.

Ayden Sutika had a pair of hits for Curwensville.

Dylan Hartman took the loss giving up three earned runs on four hits in an inning of work.

BROCKWAY 15, FOREST AREA 0, 3 INNINGS

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Andrew Brubaker drove in four runs while going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run scored to pace Brockway’s 15-0, three-inning win over visiting Forest Area.

Dylan Bash added three RBIs for the Rovers while going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, and Logan Faith was 1-for-1 with two RBIs in the win.

Bash got the win not allowing a hit in three innings of work. He struck out six and walked two.

Colton Kuntz took the loss for Forest Area allowing eight runs, two earned, on four hits and a walk while striking out three in 1 ⅔ innings of work.

CLARION 12, NORTH CLARION 1, 6 INNINGS

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Noah Harrison drove in three runs to help Clarion roll past homestanding North Clarion, 12-1, in six innings.

Harrison was 1-fro-3 with a walk.

Devon Lauer added a pair of RBIs for the Bobcats going 1-for-4 with a walk.

Dawson Smail, meanwhile, doubled twice and was 2-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored, Chase Kriebel scored twice while going 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, Ryan Alston was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Gary Matus was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Isaac Gilara went 1-for-3 with a home run for North Clarion.

Alston got the win going four innings allowing one earned runs on five hits, a hit batter, and three walks while striking out four.

Daunte Grivan pitched two scoreless, hitless innings for the Bobcats walking four and striking out three.

Aiden Hartle took the loss going three innings allowing two earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four.

Gilara gave up three earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one in one inning of work, and Zeelan Hargenrader went two innings allowing seven runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk.

WEST SHAMOKIN 8, MONITEAU 3

BUTLER, Pa. – Lou Swartz drove in in a pair of runs to help West Shamokin beat Moniteau, 8-3.

Swartz was 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Niko Buffone scored four times for the Wolves going 2-for-3 with a walk. Peyton Harter also went 2-for-4 width a run scored and an RBI.

Dawson Wallace was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored for Moniteau.

Buffone pitched five innings allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits, a walk, and a hit batter while striking out two. Lou Swartz pitched two innings walking three and striking out two.

Carson Ritts took the loss going 4 ⅔ innings allowing six runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out nine. David Martino went 2 ⅓ innings allowing two unearned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out six.

SOFTBALL

FOREST AREA 8, BROCKWAY 2

BROCKWAY, Pa. – A strong all-around performance from Izabelle Flick helped Forest Area to an 8-2 road win over Brockway.

Flick was the winning pitcher allowing two runs, both earned, on four hits and eight walks while striking out nine in seven innings in the circle. She was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Madison McFarland scored twice for the Fires and went 2-for-4, while Emily Aites was also 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Danielle Wood was 1-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base, and two runs scored for Brockway, while Stephanie Stage had an RBI and two stolen bases.

Taylor Rhed took the loss allowing eight earned runs on 13 hits and three walks.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 11, JOHNSONBURG 1, 6 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – Savannah Morelli went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a run scored, and four RBIs to lift DuBois Central Catholic past visiting Johnsonburg, 11-1, in six innings at Heindl Field in DuBois.

Kayley Risser was also 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored for the Lady Cardinals, while Rose Whipple went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Emma Suplizo scored twice and was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Morgan Tyler got the win going six innings allowing one earned run on three hits and four walks while striking out 11.

Natalie Dunworth had a double for Johnsonburg, while Jenna Kasmerski walked and had an RBI. Shelby Sorg scored the Ramettes run.

Julia Jones took the loss going two innings allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out one. Julie Peterson pitched 3 ⅓ innings allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out one.

KANE 21, UNION 11, 6 INNINGS

KANE, Pa. – Leah Tingani and Jenny Crowley each had four hits to help Kane blast past visiting Union, 21-11, in six innings.

Tingani was 4-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI, while Crowley was 4-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, and four runs scored.

Madison Stahli drove in four runs and went 3-for-5 with a triple and four runs scored, and Hailey Slater was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Emerson Stevens went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs for Union, while Kya Wetzel was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored.

Mackenna Davis was also 3-for-3 with two walks, a run scored, and two RBIs for the Golden Damsels, Autumn Blystone was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Ava Schreckengost was 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs, and Magen Walzak was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Maya Smith got the win going 4 ⅔ innings allowing nine runs, eight earned, on 12 hits, nine walks, and two hit batters while striking out one. Tigani pitched 1 ⅓ innings allowing three unearned runs on three hits and a hit batter while striking out three.

Kassie Wensel took the loss going five innings allowing 21 runs, eight earned, on 18 hits and five walks while striking out five.

MARION CENTER 11, BROOKVILLE 1, 5 INNINGS

MARION CENTER, Pa. – Lexi Roush hit two home runs, including a game-ending solo blast that enacted the 10-Run Rule in Marion Center’s 11-1 win over Brookville in five innings.

Roush’s first home run was a two-run homer in the third inning as the Lady Stingers trailed 1-0 before scoring four runs to break the game open. Her second shot ended the game with one out in the bottom of the fifth.

Starting pitcher Shyanne Silvis also hit a grand slam homer in the fifth before Roush’s second homer. She scattered six hits while striking out seven with no walks.

Tori McKinney had two of the Lady Raiders’ hits. Their run came in the top of the first inning when Cadence Suhan singled and came around to score on Kerstyn Davie’s two-out single.

Alyssa Tollini was the losing pitcher, striking out one and walking none while giving up 12 hits.

WEST SHAMOKIN 21, MONITEAU 17

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Haleigh Newell and Lily Jordan each drove in four runs to help West Shamokin win a slugfest, 21-17, at Moniteau.

Newell was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two walks, and three runs scored, while Jordan was 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, and three runs scored.

Also for West Shamokin, Maria Young went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and two RBIs.

Maddie McConnell got the win going 6 ⅓ innings allowing 11 runs, seven earned, on six hits, and 13 walks while striking out four.

Megan Wise drove in six runs for Moniteau going 2-for-5 with a walk and a run scored, while Emma Covert went 3-for-4 with a double, two walks, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Also for the Lady Warriors, Brynne Barber went 1-for-5 with three RBIs.

Barber took the loss going 1 ⅓ innings allowing 13 runs, eight earned, on eight hits and four walks while striking out one.

WILLIAMSBURG 7, CURWENSVILLE 4

WILLIAMSBURG, Pa. – Ashley Brubaker hit a pair of home runs and went 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, and four RBIs to lead Williamsburg past visiting Curwensville, 7-4.

Kara Lansberry added a pair of RBIs for the Pirates going 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

Shyanne Rudy went 3-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBIs for Curwensville, while Maddison Butler went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Kaelyn Calderwood got the win going four innings allowing two runs, both earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out two. Lansberry picked up the save going three innings allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one.

Joslynne Freyer took the loss going six innings allowing seven earned runs on eight hits, five walks, and two hit batters while striking out four.
