FRANKLIN 5, NORTH EAST 0

NORTH EAST, Pa. – Franklin’s Luke Guth turned in another dominant outing, striking out 19 in a one-hit shutout of North East.

The Vanderbilt commit walked just one and threw 68 of his 105 pitches for strikes, allowing just an Anthony Rizzo single to lead off the seventh inning.

Offensively, the Knights scored single runs in the first and fourth innings and three in the seventh. Kyle Alexander was 2-for3 with a double and three RBIs, while Carson Wible was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Guth 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.

   

                  

Aden Bulger took the loss for North East, allowing two runs in 3 ⅔ innings on three hits, striking out five, and walking three.

SHARPSVILLE 18, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 8, 5 innings

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. – Sharpsville pounded out 20 hits in an 18-8, five-inning win over Sharpsville.

The top four in the Blue Devils’ lineup – Luke Distler, Stephen Tarnoci, Brock Lenzi and James Thomas combined to go 11-of-14 with nine RBIs and 14 runs scored. Distler had four hits, including two doubles, while Lenzi had two doubles and four RBIs and Tranoci and Thomas two RBIs and three runs.

In addition, Eli Eckles was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Josh Divens was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs.

                          

Braden Scarvel went 3 ⅔ innings to get the win, allowing seven runs (all unearned) on five hits, striking out five, and walking four.

Stargell Fuhr and Davey Cochenour drove in two runs each for Kennedy Catholic, with Fuhr collecting two hits.

Fuhr took the loss, allowing seven runs in 1 ⅓ innings.

WEST MIDDLESEX 13, JAMESTOWN 1, 6 innings

               

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – Richie Preston’s fourth inning grand-slam led an offensive outburst for West Middlesex in a 13-1 win over Jamestown.

It was part of a seven-run fourth inning for the Big Reds and part of a 3-for-4, six-RBI effort for Preston.

Devin Gruver went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs, and three runs, while Blaise Fox was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.

Gio Rococi went three innings to get the win, allowing one unearned run on three hits, striking out four, and walking one. Evan Gilson tossed three hitless innings, striking out one and walking three.

Cole Ternant took the loss, allowing seven runs (one earned) in 3 ⅔ innings, allowing six hits, striking out three, and walking three.

SOFTBALL

SHARON 18, SLIPPERY ROCK 0, 4 innings

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Ella Brown’s fourth-inning grand slam punctuated Sharon’s 18-0, four-inning win over Slippery Rock.

Brown had a monster day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with six RBIs. In addition, Ella Connelly was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and four runs, and Iresha Norris and Lexi Berkson also drove in a pair of runs. Sharon also took advantage of six Slippery Rock errors.

Claire Bodien got the win, pitching four shutout innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out five.

            

Emma Green took the loss for Slippery Rock, allowing 12 earned runs on 10 hits, striking out three, and walking three.
