BASEBALL
DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 6, KANE 0
DUBOIS, Pa. – Carter Hickman and Kaden Brezenski combined on a no-hitter, as DuBois Central Catholic beat Kane, 6-0, at Stern Field in DuBois.
Hickman started and pitched two innings walking two and striking out two. Brezenski went five innings walking one, hitting one, and striking out two.
Brezenski played a big role in the offensive attack for the Cardinals, as well, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored, and an RBI.
Hickman was also 2-for-4 with Aiden Snowberger scoring twice and Ben Gritzer and Nick Colbey each adding doubles. Colbey chipped in an RBI.
Harley Morris took the loss going 4 ⅓ innings allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out six. Curtis Barner pitched 1 ⅓ innings allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out one, and Brock Wensel retired the only batter he faced.
A-C VALLEY/UNION 24, FOREST AREA 0, 4 INNINGS; A-C VALLEY/UNION 16, FOREST AREA 2, 4 INNINGS
BUTLER, Pa. – Using a 15-run fourth inning, A-C Valley/Union beat Forest Area, 24-0, in four innings in Game One of a doubleheader at Michelle Krill Memorial Field at Historic Pullman Park in Butler.
Bailey Crissman led the Falcons with three RBIs while going 1-for-3.
Trey Fleming added a 3-for-4 day with a double, two RBIs, and four runs scored, Gary Amsler was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk, two RBIs, and three runs scored, Max Lowrey was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Tony Salizoni was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI, Zeke Causey was 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored.
Also driving in a pair of runs apiece for A-C Valley/Union were Ryan Cooper, Drew Chalmers, Lane Bauer, Sebastian Lin, and Adrian Schmoll with Bauer scoring three times and Cooper and Link twice each.
Troy Forkin had a hit for Forest Area.
Crissman pitched three innings to get the win. He didn’t allow a hit or a walk and struck out all nine batters he faced.
Link pitched a scoreless inning allowing a hit and striking out one.
In Game Two, Amsler and Fleming both tripled in the 16-2 win that was called after four innings when the umpires told the teams there was 12-run Mercy rule after four innings (not an actual thing; the Mercy Rules are 10 runs after five and 15 runs after 3 in PIAA baseball) and Forest Area said it was out of pitching.
Bauer and Causey each added doubles in the win for the Falcon Knights, who saw Amsler drive in three runs while going 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Fleming was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs with Crissman going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Forest Area’s offense scored its first two runs of the season with Zach Carll and Warren Dashner each scoring. Carll was 1-for-1, while Forkin was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Chase Ruth got the win in relief going two innings allowing no runs on a hit and a strikeout.
Alex Preston started and went one inning allowing two earned runs on a hit and three walks while striking out two. Max Lowrey pitched a scoreless inning allowing a hit while striking out three.
Colton Kuntz took the loss going an inning allowing seven runs, four earned, on five hits and a walk while striking one.
Nathan Dietrick pitched two innings allowing nine runs, three earned, on four hits and five walks while striking out one.
A-C VALLEY/UNION 8, KEYSTONE 5
BUTLER, Pa.- Playing its third game of the day, got five combined hits and RBIs from Ryan Cooper and Trey Fleming in an 8-5 win over Keystone at Michelle Krill Memorial Field at Historic Pullman Park in Butler.
Cooper was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs with Fleming going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Chaz Renninger was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Keystone with Aiden Sell driving in a pair of runs while walking once and Drew Keth going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Gary Amsler got the win going four innings allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits and five walks while striking out five. Cooper picked up the save going three scoreless innings striking out five.
Sam Hogue took the loss going 3 ⅔ innings allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out six. Cole Henry pitched 1 ⅓ innings allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits, and Sell went two innings walking one and striking out five.
PORT ALLEGANY 14, CAMERON COUNTY 2
EMPORIUM, Pa. – Payton Spencer went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs to help visiting Port Allegany to a 14-2, six-inning win over Cameron County.
Isaiah Wiley was also 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Gators with Noah Archer and Sawyer Price each scoring twice. Prince was 1-for-2 with two walks, and Archer was 1-for-3 2ith a walk and an RBI.
Maddox Baughman went 1-for-2 while being hit by a pitch, scoring a run, and driving in a run for Cameron County, while Devin Fowler was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Prince pitched 3 ⅓ innings to get the win allowing no hits and one earned run on a walk and a hit batter while striking out seven. Ty Guilds went 2 ⅔ innings allowing an earned run on two hits and three walks while striking out one.
Trey Tucker took the loss pitching 4 ⅔ innings allowing seven earned runs on five hits, five walks, and a hit batter while striking out two.
Josh Beer pitched ⅔ of an inning giving up three earned runs on three hits while striking out one, Aiden Jones pitched ⅔ of an inning allowing an earned run on two hits, and Derek Cherry didn’t retire a batter allowing three earned runs on one hit and two hit batters.
SOFTBALL
CLEARFIELD 8, PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 0
HYDE, Pa. – Playing on the turf on the football field, Clearfield got another strong pitching performance from Emma Hipps and Oliva Bender hit a home run in an 8-0 win over visiting Philipsburg-Osceola.
Hipps went the seven-inning distance allowing six hits and three walks while striking out nine.
Bender was 1-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs.
Hipps helped her own cause going 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, and two RBIs. She was also hit by a pitch.
Ruby Singleton added a 2-for-3 day with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored, and Lauren Ressler was hit by a pitch while going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
London Cutler went 3-for-4 for P-O with Alivia Bizzarri going 2-for-3 with a triple.
Bizzari took the loss going 1 ⅓ innings allowing eight runs, three earned, on five hits, a walk, and a hit batter while striking out two. Karissa Talor pitched 4 ⅔ innings scoreless. She did a allow a hit and four walks while hitting three but also struck out six.
