April 12, 2022 D10 Softball: Tingley, Union City Walk-Off Against Cambridge Springs; Corry’s Dyne Fires No-Hitter

UNION CITY 4, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 3

UNION CITY, Pa. – Abby Tingley delivered a walk-off RBI single to lift Union City to a 4-3, eight-inning win in an early-season showdown over Cambridge Springs.

Tingley singled in Lucy Higley, who doubled with two outs.

Tingley also got the win. The senior scattered 13 hits and struck out six without issuing a walk.

   

                  

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning, with Cambridge Springs taking the lead in the third on an RBI double off the bat of Cheyenne Mosconi.

Union City tied the game in the fourth on an RBI double off the bat of Kiley Gregor.

Higley finished 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for the Lady Bears, while Emylee Zielinski also drove in a run.

Hailee Rodgers was in the circle for Cambridge Springs, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and one walk, striking out one.

Mosconi finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Kylee Miller was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

                          

CORRY 4, SHARON 0

CORRY, Pa. Haylee Dyne was nearly perfect, firing a no-hitter and allowing just two walks in a 4-0 win over Sharon.

Dyne struck out nine and threw 64 of her 95 pitches for strikes.

Kayla Hayes and Mackenzie Spence drove in two runs each for Corry.

               

NORTH EAST 9, CONNEAUT (OHIO) 8

NORTH EAST, Pa. – Karlee Stetson delivered a walk-off RBI double to lift North East to a 9-8 win over Conneaut (Ohio).

The win capped a rally that saw North East trail 8-7 going into the bottom of the seventh. Elizabeth Svetz tied the game with an RBI single, with all of the damage coming with one out.

North East led 7-3 after three innings, but Conneaut scored five times in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead.

Julianna Coletta had a huge day at the plate for North East, going 5-for-5 with an RBI, while Amelia and Elizabeth Svetz drove in two runs apiece.

Alex Cozzens got the win, allowing four earned runs on nine hits, walking seven, and striking out 11.

MERCYHURST PREP 13, GIRARD 12

GIRARD, Pa. – A furious Girard rally came up just short as Mercyhurst Prep held on for a 13-12 win over the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets led 13-8 going into the bottom of the seventh. A double play brought in one run and back-to-back RBI singles Aislynn Parsons and Maddison Dick cut the lead to one before Aubrey Wells induced a pop-out to end the game.

Mercyhurst Prep got its 13 runs on just five hits, taking advantage of eight Girard errors. Wells drove in a pair of runs, while Joce Ollinger was 1-for-4 with a double, RBI, and four runs. Gigi Zonna, who started the game in the circle, also had a pair of hits.

            

Zonna got the win, allowing six earned runs in six innings, issuing 11 walks, and allowing six hits while striking out three.

Dick drove in a pair of runs for Girard, while Nyara Wentling-Gonzalez was 2-for-2 at the plate.

Kayla Klimek took the loss, allowing 10 runs (one earned) in 4 ⅓ innings, allowing three hits, striking out six and walking three.

JAMESTOWN 8, GROVE CITY 2

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Reese Schaller and Jose Pfaff had three hits each as Jamestown earned an 8-2 win over Grove City.

Morgan Bercis also drove in a pair of runs for the Muskies.

Miranda Biles got the win, allowing two runs on just four hits, striking out four, and walking two.

Logan Jones took the loss, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits, striking out two, and walking two.

VILLA MARIA 3, MCDOWELL 0

ERIE, PA. – Jenna Wagner tossed a three-hit shutout as Villa Maria earned a 3-0 win over McDowell.

Wagner struck out 11 and didn’t issue a walk, throwing 62 of her 82 pitches for strikes.

The Victors scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning, as Wagner had a two-run double and Haley Dever an RBI double as well.

SAEGERTOWN 10, COCHRANTON 1

SAEGERTOWN, Pa. – Mikayla Obenrader tossed a complete-game two-hitter as Saegertown earned a 10-1 win over Cochranton.

Obenrader struck out 13 and walked eight. She also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

The Panthers scored three runs in the fourth and four in the sixth. Rylie Braymer and Kylie Thompson had two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Taytum Jackson suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs in six innings on 15 hits, striking out five.

Kaylin Rose had both hits for the Cardinals.

FRANKLIN 16, OIL CITY 1, 4 innings

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Franklin pounded out 18 hits, including six doubles in a 16-1, four-inning win over Oil City.

The big blow came in the second inning when Franklin erupted for eight runs.

The top three hitters in the Franklin lineup – Sydni Hoobler, Gabriella Laderer and Rilee Hanna combined to go 8-for-9 with four RBIs and nine runs scored.

Gabriella Wimer was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Autumn Fitzgerald was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Hoobler and Trinity Edge both went two innings in the circle, both allowing two hits and combining to strike out seven.

Payton Burk had an RBI double for Oil City.

WILMINGTON 5, WEST MIDDLESEX 4

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Trailing 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, Wilmington scored three runs to walk-off against West Middlesex.

Malia Baney got the inning going with a solo home run, while McKenna Bucker tied the game with an RBI single and, with the winning run coming across on an error. Wilmington staged the entire rally without an out being recorded.

Paije Peterson also drove in a run for Wilmington.

Ava Williamson got the win, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, striking out 12.

Taylor Tomko was 3-for-3 with three RBIs for the Big Reds.

Kaylee Long suffered the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out seven and walking one.

EISENHOWER 13, YOUNGSVILLE 5

RUSSELL, Pa. – Eisenhower scored three runs in the third inning to take the lead in what was ultimately a 13-5 win over county rival Youngsville.

Youngsville led 5-3 going to the bottom of the third, but RBIs from Taylor Napolitan, Abi Grunden, and Tracey Jakubczak gave Eisenhower a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

The Lady Knights struck for two more runs in the fifth on an RBI single from Napolitan, with an error allowing another run to cross the plate.

EHS scored five runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach, as Jackubczak came up with another big hit to plate a pair of runs, with Cali Chapman and Lillian Smyth also collecting hits in the inning.

Napolitan got the win, striking out six.

Napolitan talked about the win afterward:

Kam Swearinger had an RBI single to get Youngsville back within one, 3-2 in the second. The Lady Eagles took a 5-3 lead in the third, as Olivia Goss and Madison Carnahan both had RBI groundouts. Sam Willhelm also had a single in the inning.

The freshman Swearinger was in the circle, and despite the final score, pitched well, striking out 10 in her seven innings of work.
