BASEBALL

EISENHOWER 7, IROQUOIS 6

RUSSELL, Pa. – Zane Alexander’s RBI single in the seventh gave Eisenhower a 7-6 walk-off win over visiting Iroquois Monday.

   

                  

The Braves scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-5 lead.

Camron Jakubczak led off the home half with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. One out later, Cole Chapman’s single put runners on the corners. Jakubczak scored on an error to tie the game at 6-6, and Chapman moved to third on the play. Alexander stepped in after Alex Kemery was hit by a pitch. Alexander grounded a 1-0 pitch just past short to plate Chapman for the win.

The Knights built a 5-4 lead thanks to runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. A pair of one-out walks in the top of the seventh put the tying run in scoring position for the Braves. Drew Johnson scored on a passed ball and Ben Burkhardt came home on Collin May’s double to left to put Iroquois ahead 6-5.

Alexander finished with three hits and a pair of RBI on the day. Chapman, Jakubczak, and Owen Trumbull each had two hits. Chapman allowed one earned run on one hit and three walks in 3 1/3 innings with five strikeouts.

                          

May went 4-4 with three RBI at the plate. He went four innings on the mound and allowed four runs, all earned, on seven hits with five walks and four strikeouts.

CATHEDRAL PREP 15, ERIE 2

ERIE – A 9-run third inning propelled Cathedral Prep to a 15-2, five-inning win over Erie at UPMC Park.

Jackson Mattocks went 3-3 with a triple and three RBI for the Ramblers. Luke Costello, Jake Slater, and AJ Roach each had two RBI and Cole Constable scored three times. Jack Malec allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks over three innings with six strikeouts. Costello went two innings, gave up one earned run on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

               

Kevin Fuentes and Jose Quinones each had an RBI for Erie.

MERCER 5, WEST MIDDLESEX 0

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – Troy Bachman pitched a 1-hit shutout and the Mercer offense scored four runs in the seventh in a 5-0 win at West Middlesex.

Bachman gave up a leadoff single in the sixth, but that was the only hit he allowed through seven shutout innings. He walked just one batter and struck out 10. Jake Mattocks had two hits and three RBI to lead the offense.

Garrett Donaldson went 6 2/3 innings for the Big Reds. He gave up four runs, three earned, on four hits with five walks and 10 strikeouts.

COCHRANTON 12, MAPLEWOOD 0

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Josh Merchbaker struck out 15 in seven shutout innings as Cochranton rolled to a 12-0 win at Maplewood.

Merchbaker allowed just one hit and issued a single walk. He was also 2-3 from the plate with three runs scored and three driven in. Jack Rynd and Dodge Heald each had three hits, and Rynd had a pair of RBI.
