
DUBOIS, Pa. – It will be an all-St. Marys final in the District 9 girls’ tennis championship Tuesday, as the Lady Dutch’s Samantha Hayes and Lillia Lion both advanced to the title match in play Monday.
Hays, the two-time defending champion, beat Punxsutawney’s Jade McMahan, 10-1, in the quarterfinals then downed Kylie VanTassel of Clearfield, 6-0, 6-0, in the semifinals.
Lion beat Clearfield’s Lindsey Kerlin, 10-0, in the quarterfinals and then topped Brockway’s Selena Buttery, 6-1, 6-4, in the semifinals
McMahan advanced to the quarterfinals with a 10-6 win over Elk County Catholic’s Audrey Dornisch.
VanTassel had a bye into the quarterfinals where she beat Johnsonburg’s Chloe Trumbull, 10-1. Trumbull won a 10-1 decision over Brockway’s Morgan Pirow in the opening round.
Kerlin won her opening-round match, 10-0, over Johnsonburg’s Rachel Buhl.
Buttery defeated ECC’s Gina Bush, 10-1, in the opening round and then topped Punxsutawney’s Chloe Presloid, 10-7, in the quarterfinals. Presloid had a bye into the quarterfinals.
The championship match will be played at the Fox Township Tennis Courts in Kersey at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6. The court is located behind the post office.
Team semifinals will then be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, followed by the doubles tournament Monday, Oct. 12, and the team finals Wednesday, Oct. 14.
