A Starr is Born: Harrison Starr’s 55-Foot Shot at the Horn Gives DCC One-Point Win Over Clarion

DCC players dogpile after Harrison Starr's game-winning 55-foot shot Thursday night.

DUBOIS, Pa. – Harrison Starr’s 55-foot desperation heave as time ran out found nothing but net, as DuBois Central Catholic stunned visiting Clarion, 65-64.

Clarion had seemingly just won the game when Cal German nailed a 3-pointer with just seconds left to give the Bobcats a 64-62 lead. It had helped Clarion overcome a 5-point deficit in the waning moments of the game after the Bobcats had led by 10, 48-38, going to the fourth quarter.

But after a timeout, Dante Armanini was inbounding the ball with Clarion’s Beau Verdill defending.

Verdill got a piece of the inbounds pass, but Starr tracked it down, took a dribble, and heaved up a shot from just behind the volleyball attack line that found nothing but net setting off a wild celebration.

Leading by one at halftime, Clarion outscored DCC 17-8 in the third quarter thanks to six points from German, five from Ethan Burford, and four from Verdill, to go up by 10.

But DCC rallied in the fourth quarter with Damon Foster hitting a pair of 3-pointer and Starr adding one plus a 2-pointer before his game-winning shot. Alec Srock also played a key role in the comeback scoring eight points in the final eight minutes for the Cardinals.

Srock led DCC with 22 points while Foster, who hit four 3-pointers, added 14 points. Jalen Kosko chipped in with 11 tallies, and Armanini had 10.

German had a game-high 24 points for Clarion, including eight in the fourth quarter when he hit a pair of 3-pointers. Verdill added 16 points for the Bobcats, Hunter Craddock had 14, and Burford a season-high seven.

It was the second last-second loss Clarion has suffered in less than a week. The Bobcats dropped a 52-49 decision at Brockway Saturday on a last-second steal and 3-pointer by the Rovers.
