A-C Valley, ECC, Moniteau Win 2022 District 9 Competitive Spirit Championships

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Moniteau, A-C Valley, and Elk County Catholic captured District 9 Competitive Spirit championships Saturday at Moniteau High School.

Moniteau won the Small Team Division, A-C Valley took home the Co-Ed Division, and ECC won the Large Team Division.

In addition to the three champions, four additional teams qualified for the PIAA championships with DuBois (2nd place in Co-Ed), St. Marys (2nd place in Small School), Karns City (2nd place in Large School), and Johnsonburg (3rd place in Large School) also qualifying because they had the next highest four scores regardless of division.

ECC had the highest team score on the day finishing with 82.5 points well ahead of second-place Karns City (68.4 points) and third-place Johnsonburg (66.4 points) to win the Large School Division.

A-C Valley’s win in Co-Ed and Moniteau’s win in Small were a lot closer.

The Lady Falcons scored 78.5 points just under five points ahead of second-place DuBois (73.7 points) with Clarion-Limestone in third place with 60.4 points.

Moniteau won the Small Team Division with 78.3 points just ahead of second-place St. Marys (73.6 points). Punxsutawney was third with 47.9 points. Bradford was originally scheduled to compete in Small Team but had to withdraw prior to competition.

DuBois finished fourth overall, St. Marys was fifth overall, Karns City was sixth, and Johnsonburg was seventh.

The PIAA Championships will be held Friday, Jan. 28, and Saturday, Jan. 29, at the GIANT Center in Hershey.

This year’s PIAA championship format will be broken into five classifications – 2A Small Varsity, 3A Small Varsity, 2A Large Varsity, 3A Large Varsity, and Co-Ed Varsity based on school sizes.
