Q&A With Abby Himes

D9and10Sports: How did you first get involved in sports and did you like it?
A: When I was little, I spent a lot of my time at the baseball field watching my older brothers play. From there, my parents signed me up for tee-ball, which progressed to minor league, then little league, to senior league, and now high school varsity softball. With volleyball, all my friends were playing, and I decided I would give it a shot. I ended up picking up really quickly, and it just advanced from there.

D9and10Sports: Who has been your biggest influence in life and why?
A: My biggest influence is definitely my parents. My dad has been coaching me in softball for as long as I can remember. He has taught me almost everything I know, and I owe it to him for where I stand today as the athlete I am. We would spend hours in my front yard and at the field working on basics. He has devoted a lot of time to me, and I am very grateful. My mom has been my biggest supporter since day one. She has called off work and missed many events to come watch me play sports. The support and love from my parents have definitely pushed me to where I am. I am so thankful to have such a loving family environment.

D9and10Sports: What is your favorite high school sports memory?
A: My favorite high school sports memory is going to the state playoffs this past year for softball. Our team made school history, and I couldn’t be more proud of them. I cannot wait to see what the program has in store. Our coaches are truly amazing and have worked so hard to push the softball program to where it is now.

D9and10Sports: What is your favorite social media platform and why?
A: I love Tik Tok. I could spend hours just scrolling through the app and watching videos. I also make a lot of funny videos with my friends and my boyfriend. Even though it’s a silly thing to do, I make and capture a lot of memories that way.

D9and10Sports: What would someone who is meeting you for the first time be surprised to find out about you?
A: I am very quiet at first with new people, but once you get to know me, I love to have fun.

D9and10Sports: If there was one period in history you could go back to, what would it be and why?
A: I would go back to the 50’s. For some odd reason, I really enjoy the music and I would love to experience it.

D9and10Sports: What will you tell your kids someday about living through the COVID-19 pandemic?
A: I would tell them how, at first it seemed fun, who wouldn’t enjoy 2 weeks off from school? But then, we weren’t allowed to do much and quarantine was horrible. Never take anything for granted.

D9and10Sports: What is your ideal place to live? Country, City, Suburb and why?
A: I enjoy living in the country. I like having a bigger yard and having a quiet environment not only at night but during the day as well.

D9and10Sports: Is there anything you wish we would have asked you? If so, what is the answer?
A: It is more of an addition to who influences/inspires me the most. Someone I really admire is my boyfriend. He pushes me to be not only a better athlete but a better person as well. His support means the world to me, and hearing him say, “I’m proud of you,” will forever put a smile on my face.
